STOP THE VIOLENT KANGAROO KILLING AND LIES
FURTHER UPDATES BELOW: My apologies for WordPress who have compressed most of these reports by removing paragraphs, spaces etc and unfortunately have reformatted my original properly formatted reports.  I have attempted to tidy up this report by adding more photos and our banner. I have updated the kangaroo numbers and charges against the government to include 2015 unlawful violent kill since writing these reports including adding more photos.   Unfortunately the unlawful violent slaughter did go ahead in 2015 commencing 30 April 2015-7 July 2015 – 1700+701 Joeys=2401 violently killed by the ACT Government annual kill, that does not include the other 93 permits handed out all year round or the infertility program that is preventing breeding, weakening the kangaroo species, driving them to extinction.
2015 ACT Government violent killing. Vet report says this Kangaroo was hit by a vehicle and then stabbed to death. Only the Government had access to drive around inside this complex.

2015 ACT Government violent killing. Vet report says this Kangaroo was hit by a vehicle and then stabbed to death. Only the Government had access to drive around inside this complex as this poor Kangaroo desperately tries to escape the shooters by trying to crawl under the fence after they hit this protected native Eastern Grey Kangaroo.

In 2015 the ACT Government authorised the slaughter of at least 25772 Kangaroos across the Territory. Most of these were to be killed on farms because farmers incorrectly believe that native Kangaroos compete for pasture with introduced livestock. But 5000 of the 25772 were to be killed by the government’s own hired guns on public reserves. Kangaroos maintain a healthy well balanced eco system.

In 2014 the ACAT Legal action against the government exposed that the government’s own ecologist admitted that the government’s assertions about kangaroos being a threat to vulnerable species were just “PR”, and that its claim that killing kangaroos will benefit biodiversity generally is based on a simplistic assumption that more biomass (vegetation) is better for biodiversity than the diversity of vegetation achieved by kangaroo grazing.  The TAMS Senior Ecologist had already researched the fact that the vegetation in the fenced off areas where the Kangaroos were kept out of had died because the vegetation actually needs the Kangaroos general grazing in order to survive and thrive.  The vegetation in the fenced off areas where the soft footed Kangaroos were allowed to continue their gentle grazing survived and thrived.

Please help by signing the 3 save the Kangaroos petitions. Please sign as individuals and SHARE through facebook, twitter, your friends, your family, your colleagues, your websites. Thank you for all of your help.
I have over 8000 signatures, adding up all the signatures on all 3 petitions that is more than enough signatures for this government to grant all of my requests.  This ACT Government have absolutely no respect for what the majority of the community want with the ACT Government continuing to abuse taxpayers money to commit their unlawful violence, lies etc.  The taxpayers have not given the ACT Government permission to use their money to kill the Kangaroos.   Only a small minority of 39% supported the government, government dept TAMS and the rspca in the kangaroo killing, while the majority of 56% OPPOSED the government, government dept and the rspca in their unlawful violent kangaroo killing, while 5% were unsure, please click on this link: https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/09/01/canberra-times-final-kangaroo-killing-poll-results-closed-25512/.

The killing is unlawful. Kangaroos are protected native wildlife that the Acts do not allow to be harassed, harmed, herded, killed, tortured to death.

Joey tortured to death by ACT Govt annual kill. Stabbed, still alive and suffering from  stab wounds this Joey was buried alive by the ACT Government, this Joey died of asphyxiation verified by a Vet report on vet autopsy.
Older kangaroos are shot, stabbed, and while still alive and suffering from bullet wounds and knife wounds are then buried alive.
RSPCA Vet report on 2 of the stolen Sulphur-crested Cockatoos from my property on 10/8/12 stating that the RSPCA committed acts of animal cruelty to them while stealing them from my property on 10/8/12 during their unlawful trespassing/entry, damages. The amount of blood I had to clean up after the RSPCA shows that the RSPCA Vet report is covering up the extent of the injuries that the RSPCA caused to the birds.

Wildlife Carers Group Map of Memorial Kangaroo Park and Wildlife Sanctuary

The unlawful entry and stealing of my wildlife from my property by tams, the rspca and the police occurred as a result of me taking the Conservator of Flora and Fauna to court for the unlawful violent killing of the kangaroos/animal cruelty in 2012, to stop the unlawful violent killing and to have the Acts and policies that govern these policies changed. This action against me was more abuse of taxpayers money and vexatious by the government.
TAMS, Marg Peachey, who has now started up her own wildlife group as President that would be affiliated with TAMS, is a TAMS Government wildlife group, and is affiliated with the RSPCA with the same RSPCA mobile number, and the RSPCA are not fit to work with or take and have/keep any animals, and are not fit to be writing up Acts and Policies on them either. Marg Peachey now employed by TAMS, formerly RSPCA Wildlife Manager mistreats animals throwing them around as though they were objects, and is more interested in removing native wildlife from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence that she hates, who also misguides with her training who also teaches mishandling of animals.  This corrupt government, government departments and the RSPCA abused more taxpayers money, by raiding me, defamed me with vicious lies to get me out of the way while I fought back for vindication and for the protection and safety of our wildlife, so that Marg Peachey could start up her own TAMS Government wildlife group as well as what the above paragraph states, for taking legal action against TAMS, and so that they can continue to tell lies about the Kangaroos and keep on unlawfully killing them.
The ACT Government, TAMS, and the RSPCA have abused more taxpayers money to allow Marg Peachey to start up another wildlife group, when they already had my established group that saves taxpayers money since we are all volunteers.  I have long term expertise and knowledge of over 30 years in wildlife. I had to stop Marg Peachey from removing protected native Brush-tail Possums and protected native Currawongs from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence while she was the RSPCA Wildlife Manager, purely because she hated them.  I had to seize back a magpie that needed surgery from Marg Peachey while she was the RSPCA Wildlife Manager because all Marg wanted to do was to kill it .
230415 Section 7 of Wildlife Rehab Licence Sick diseased or injured animals must receive appropriate treatment...003
The taxpayers and voters have spoken in my 3 petitions and have demanded that Marg Peachey has her Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence revoked/cancelled.  This 20/4/2015 report/news has been added to all 3 petitions as confirmation on our demands. Marg Peachey’s TAMS Government wildlife group will have to be deregistered to prevent unlawful and unnecessary killing and extinction of wildlife.

'Sarah' EGK in doco
On 7/7/13 I was prevented from personally helping a Joey, as animal cruelty continued by TAMS and was committed by a TAMS ranger named Grant who went out and saw a Joey in Oxley that was mauled by 2 roaming dogs. He failed to sedate the Joey and immediately provide the Joey with veterinary treatment for the injuries, and shock, and to ensure that the Joey was rehabilitated by a responsible experienced person, such as myself, prior to release. Instead, he told a resident that if the Joey didn’t hop away by 8/7/13 that he would kill it. This is completely unacceptable and unlawful.
230415 Section 7 of Wildlife Rehab Licence Sick diseased or injured animals must receive appropriate treatment...003
According to the caller, the dogs dragged the Joey across the road, and was therefore injured and suffering myopathy (shock).
The callers phoned me being dissatisfied with the TAMS Ranger Grant’s non action, and asked me to help them to help the Joey. I phoned a rescuer and asked him to sedate the Joey, rescue it, and to immediately get it to have medical treatment and rehabilitation. The ranger then phoned me and left me a threatening message demanding that I phone him back, that he had already attended the site where the Joey was, and that I was to stay away and leave the Joey where it was, to suffer. I refused to phone Grant back.

TAMS and CSIRO were fighting over an endangered Major Mitchell Cockatoo that was someone’s pet that had escaped. THEIR FIGHT WAS OVER who was going to torture this poor bird to death by draining the blood out of it while it was still alive and conscious, after TAMS seized it from a wildlife carer who was happy to keep the bird as his pet if the owner didn’t come forward. THIS WILDLIFE CARER IS NOW DECEASED. TAMS violently kill everything. No wildlife can be given to TAMS OR THE RSPCA. THE PUBLIC DO NOT HAND IN WILDLIFE SO THAT TAMS AND THE RSPCA CAN TORTURE THEM TO DEATH OR FEED THEM TO SNAKES, RAPTORS AND OTHER CARNIVOROUS ANIMALS.

ANIMAL CRUELTY WARNINGS IGNORED BY MICHAEL LINKE. DROWNING IN THE SLURRY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE EITHER AND IS ALSO COMMITTING ACTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY:
Under my conditions of my licence K8464 No.4, it stated that the animals shall not be sold….., however, the RSPCA is selling the animals, adopting out animals is the same as selling them, the RSPCA are making a profit from wildlife, including mine that they stole from me, and what they couldn’t sell, adopt out and profit from, the RSPCA killed. The RSPCA have contravened other conditions of their licence as well as in failing to provide veterinary treatment and care, including surgery when needed, who instead kill.
230415 Section 7 of Wildlife Rehab Licence Sick diseased or injured animals must receive appropriate treatment...003
Condition 28 of the licence K8464 is requesting that: “The Wildlife Foundation shall maintain and submit to the Conservator of Flora and Fauna: 1) A current list of names and addresses of members of the Foundation and 2) Records of all animals received by the Foundation by June 30 each year. These records shall contain: 1. Date and where animal found 2. Name and address of person delivering animal 3. Species and sex of animal/s 4. Date animal received 5.Treatment provided and 6. Date of animal’s release, or name and address of person animal delivered to and date delivered.”
This means that my licence should still be valid and extended/a continuance which can be done under special conditions and backdated to 2008/2009.
Wildlife Carers Group Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence K8464 conditions 27 and 28

Wildlife Carers Group Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence K8464 conditions 27 and 28

Since TAMS were requesting condition 28 information from another group when they falsely gave condition 28 of the licence as not being complied by, and as their reason for not issuing a renewal, even though I still complied with that condition, and since condition 28 is not referring to Wildlife Carers Group, then the licence K8464 still has to be valid if they want to continue to falsely deny that they received everything as requested.
I was advised by the court to ignore condition 28, however TAMS have been using condition 28 not to renew my licence, to defame me to my carers, vets, etc, which they cannot do.
The only condition I contravened on the licence K8464 was in condition No.28 by giving TAMS a list of vets and carers names, records, etc when condition 28 was asking the Wildlife Foundation to give them their list of vets and carers names, records etc. All of TAMS evidence shows that I was bullied and threatened by TAMS in giving them that information in contravention to condition 28 of my licence which I gave under duress and is therefore inadmissible in court.

I repeatedly advised the licensing officers that they have also erred in the licence by naming the Wildlife Foundation which they repeatedly ignored, as they repeatedly ignore everything else. Therefore, as I have repeatedly stated, this is all departmental error by a dysfunctional department. Neither myself nor the animals can be allowed to suffer the consequences, or hold me and the animals responsible for TAMS repeated errors and contravention to the Act, the Animal Welfare Act and the Code of Practice etc. any further.
I believe that I have suffered enough intimidation, torment, bullying (upto $600,000 fine), humiliation, degradation, defamation, vicious harassment and violated by these departments and the RSPCA over false allegations, etc for over a long period of time that dates back to 2004 when I first applied for the Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence.

Public apology over the defamatory letters sent to all my carers, vets in 2008 and to anyone else these and other defamatory letters were sent out to referring to me and Wildlife Carers Group.  One defamatory lie was that I did not  comply with section 28, the other lie was that I hadn’t yet responded  to their renewal licence which they had NOT sent out to me.  I had to chase after them to get the renewal licence sent out to me;
Public apology over defamation leading to and on10/8/12, and thereafter for the unlawful trespassing and theft of wildlife and my wildlife food etc, taken against me;
Public apology on 11/8/12 defamatory article in the Canberra Times;
A HUGE COMPENSATION PAYOUT TO ME.

Note condition 27 doesn’t allow full term rehabilitation for Eastern Grey Kangaroos (EGK), showing the ACT Government’s hatred for the EGK’s, the only state with this policy.  The Canberra Chronicle – TAMS Ranger Brett McNamara Our Bush Capital – article Restoring Balance ‘An intricate web of life’, p12, 21/4/15, is an intricate web of lies. The ACT Government’s Kangaroo killing is driven by hatred and lies, and NOT by Science. Science tells the ACT Government to leave the Kangaroos alone because without the soft footed macropods and their gentle grazing to stimulate native vegetation growth along with their natural fertilisation through their faeces, the vegetation will die. The ACT Government is driving the Eastern Grey Kangaroos to extinction with their over killing, lies and mismanagement. The strong large males and strong healthy females are targeted destroying their strong healthy gene pools, weakening the species. On top of the 31+ killing permits, predators, the ACT Government is also sterilising the Kangaroos to completely wipe them right out and to speed up the process of driving them to extinction. The ACT Government’s lies about the Kangaroos is encouraging violence who are committing fraud with their false reports. The Kangaroos are not over grazing and there is such a small population left. The kangaroos are not of an abundance. The ACT Government hand out approx. 30 permits a year to land holders to kill the Kangaroos, along with their own annual unlawful killing that would add up to approx. 31 killing permits of protected native wildlife a year. Kangaroos and other macropods predators are dogs, raptors, foxes, snakes, humans, road kills, development/construction, fences, loss of habitat that are keeping the population well below the required population to provide a healthy well balanced eco system. The ACT Government is destroying the habitat and driving the Eastern Grey Kangaroos, other macropods, reptiles, insects and other wildlife to extinction through poisoning – baits and sprays, unlawful killing throughout the year, construction of roads and buildings, driving quad bikes, heavy machinery, and trucks throughout reserves, digging up the reserves for trenches etc. who are destroying the Bush Capital. After each ACT Government killing, they then spread poisonous baits throughout all the reserves to finish off the last remaining Kangaroos and other native wildlife. The ACT Government is driving our Kangaroos and other native wildlife flora and fauna to extinction. Updated from top to bottom with more relevant photos to show the extent of the ACT Government’s and the RSPCA’s violence and lies. The ACT Government are weakening the species by targeting the large males and strong healthy females that hold the strong gene pools.

It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia and Tasmania, with a local population in Perth (Western Australia), initiated from aviary releases, that is now found in the ACT as well due to habitat loss. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas.  Both sexes look alike, with a blue (mauve) head and belly, green wings, tail and back, and an orange/yellow breast. The Rainbow Lorikeet mostly forages on the flowers of shrubs or trees to harvest nectar and pollen, but also eats fruits, seeds and some insects. The eggs of the Rainbow Lorikeet are laid on chewed, decayed wood, usually in a hollow limb of a eucalypt tree. Both sexes prepare the nest cavity and feed the young, but only the female incubates the eggs.

GREYHOUND RACING CRUELTY UPDATE: Racing Queensland has banned six Greyhound trainers for life and suspended 27 trainers from the industry over live-baiting and 14 people have been arrested on 53 charges, including 37 of serious animal cruelty. The inquiry’s report is due before June. Inquiry has been expanded. https://au.news.yahoo.com/…/qld-greyhound-inquiry-given-wi…/ After all of my correspondence to the Ministers demanding  the ban of Greyhound racing,  https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2015/02/24/wildlife-carers-group-news-wildlife-carers-group-goes-to-africa-warningprotein-from-china-used-in-animal-and-baby-formula-ban-greyhound-racing-25215/.

Here are Questions and Answers in the Legislative Assembly for the ACT on Greyhound racing-live baiting on 18-19 March 2015: ‘MR SMYTH: My question is to the Minister for Racing and Gaming, Minister, on 17 February you described the reports on live baiting in the greyhound racing industry as “truly shocking” and said that you had ordered the commission to investigate the matter further, Minister, have you ordered the commission to investigate this matter?  If yes, when? If no, when will you order this investigation, and will you table the terms of reference? MS BURCH: I have had discussions with the commissioner about this.  It is my understanding that he has spoken with the greyhound club or some of his officials have visited the site.  One of the key questions I had was: do any of the trainers or owners that were recognised in that Four Corners report have connections here? It is my understanding one trainer was identified in that report that raced here two or three years ago. This is something the commission will have an eye to over time.  I am happy to bring advice, as this is something the public has a strong interest in.  I know many members in this Assembly have had a  lot of correspondence damning the practice, which was absolutely disgraceful.  I have confidence that the greyhound industry here abides by all the integrity that the code of conduct of the industry requires. MADAM SPEAKER: A supplementary question, Mr Smyth. MR SMYTH: Minister, when you directed the Gambling and Racing Commission to make inquiries as to whether interstate trainers who use live baiting had operated in the ACT, what were the outcomes? Will you be issuing a report from the review that is being conducted? MS BURCH: I think I indicated in my first answer that there was one trainer identified that was here once.  But I will get an update, and I am quite happy to bring back, probably tomorrow, at the end of question time, some information about where that is up to.  Will I be issuing a report on it?  I had not planned to, but I think a statement in the Assembly tomorrow, following question time, with an update, would suffice. MADAM SPEAKER: A supplementary question, Mr Doszpot. MR DOSZPOT: MINISTER, HAVE YOU WRITTEN TO YOUR INTERSTATE COUNTERPARTS TO PRIORITISE THE ISSUES OF ANIMAL ABUSE IN THE GREYHUND RACING INDUSTRY IN YOUR NEXT MEETING WITH THEM? WHEN DID YOU DO THIS? WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE? MS BURCH: Yes, I have written. Tomorrow, when I bring the advice, I am quite happy to table a copy of that letter.  The meeting was actually scheduled for sometime in May.  Advice has come through to my office today that has been deferred.  So unfortunately, I will not have a chance to have a face-to-face discussion with my colleagues on that because the meeting has been bumped to no fixed date in the future. MADAM SPEAKER: A supplementary question, Mr Doszpot. MS BURCH: I am confident, and the advice to me is, that there is no baiting-absolutely no baiting-here in the ACT. But, as I have said, I am quite happy to come back with an updated bit of advice tomorrow.’ Cont’d – March 19: ‘MS BURCH: Yesterday, in regard to greyhounds there were a number of questions from those opposite.  While the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission is responsible for the regulation of gambling activities, the Canberra Greyhound Racing Club, under the auspices of Greyhounds Australasia, is responsible for the conduct of greyhound racing and the registration of owners and training. In December 2013 the government signed an MOU with the Canberra Greyhound Racing Club so that we can maintain strong integrity in relation to the code of conduct and the discharge of their duties.  The commission has been working with the Canberra Greyhound Racing Club to ascertain whether any identified or banned owners or trainers from other jurisdictions have attended race meetings held by the club.  It has also initiated inspections of the venue and attended race meetings and training sessions to monitor that. The commission has ascertained that one trainer currently under investigation in New South Wales previously raced in the ACT, back in 2013, and that person is currently suspended in New South Wales, pending an investigation.  Earlier in March this year the commission then received further advice that one suspended Victorian trainer had raced in the ACT.  The Greyhound Racing Club have advised that that trainer had attended cup meetings but there is a watch on that future activity. Racing Queensland announced that an additional 23 trainers have been suspended, and the Canberra Racing Club are looking to see if there is any connection back here to Canberra, but nothing as yet.  The commission is continuing to liaise with the Greyhound Racing Club, and no complaints have been received by the commission in relation to live baiting in the territory. There was a question over letters.  I am quite happy to table the letters that I have written to my counterparts in regard to greyhound racing.  I present the following paper: Greyhound Racing Industry Standards-ABC’s Four Corners program- Correspondence to State and Territory Ministers for Racing, dated 2 March 2015.’

TRAGIC DEATH OF BERANI SUMATRAN TIGER AT NATIONAL ZOO AND AQUARIUM 1st photo 27/1/2015- taken by Nora Preston, 2nd photo 26/1/2014 – me feeding the Tiger – We enjoyed visiting Berani at the National Zoo and Aquarium (NZ&A) and will certainly miss the presence of this beautiful Tiger in the future. Heartbreaking news of the death of Berani, died on Monday 20/4/15.  NZ&A are still waiting for the autopsy to find out the cause of death after he suffered for a couple of weeks. SUMATRAN TIGER (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is the smallest and a rare tiger subspecies that inhabits the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It was classified as critically endangered by IUCN in 2008 as the population was estimated at 441 to 679. The actual population maybe as low as 400 that are left in the wild with a dwindling population. https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/…/wildlife…/ http://www.canberratimes.com.au/…/the-national-zoo-mourns-t…

BAN THE TRAWLERS IN AUSTRALIA I’ve been posting on Greg Hunt’s and Tony Abbott’s Facebook and Twitter pages for them to STOP THE TRAWLERS AND TURN THEM BACK – BAN ALL TRAWLERS, after the Geelong Star arrived and docked at Albany port in WA.  However, they did not listen to me or to hundreds of thousands of other people, and allowed the super trawler to fish that has now killed 4 dolphins and 2 seals on his first day of fishing at Tasmania and Victorian waters.  It is not acceptable to allow these trawlers into Australian waters.  They are destructive and violent in their methods of catch and drive our native marine and fresh water life to extinction: https://www.facebook.com/stopthetrawler/photos/a.256369554551712.1073741831.252738184914849/374863562702310/?type=1&theater. 4 dolphins and 2 seals have died in the first two weeks of the Geelong Star factory trawler operating in Australian waters. This was predictable, but it is not acceptable. Completely unacceptable, no marine life should lose their lives. Trawlers over fish and drive marine life to extinction that will have repercussions on the environment. Turn the trawlers around and send them back from where they came from. You can help us make the necessary changes for our native protected Eastern Grey Kangaroos, by signing this petition, and circulating this for us http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/saveallthe-kangaroos.html . In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10 that has now been removed, http://www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/  don fletcher from tams says thatkangaroos are not the main problem and in fact‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”. This statement is admitting to the flawed, dishonest kangaroo management plan, and russell watkinson’s media release, on Friday 18/6/10, that blames the kangaroos for driving legless lizards, earless dragons, etc, and the deteriorating grasslands and woodlands to extinction, by eating all the grasses, when fletcher admits that the native grasses are not threatened by the kangaroos, but by human activity, including toxic sprays. Please check out this link http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx , that was in the Canberra times on 17/10/09, that completely refutes the allegations against the roos destroying grasslands, that was sent to maxine cooper, that were also ignored. The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx, with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the ‘letters to the editor’ section, titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11. Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUZrKj6ClBg  ‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows. Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related , so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species. Native protected animals called pests, the very same native animals that maintain a healthy well balanced eco system. The code of practice that the shooter refers to is inhumane, and unacceptable, as witnessed in this video footage. Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders), causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59. We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and can offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 90 odd Dingoes, population estimation as of 28-29 August 2011, (since the mismanaged Fraser Island fire by the Qld government, this Dingo population has more than likely dropped dramatically), that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade it currently holds, which will end Fraser Island tourism. This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP NEWS – WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP GOES TO AFRICA; WARNING:PROTEIN FROM CHINA USED IN ANIMAL AND BABY FORMULA; BAN GREYHOUND RACING – 25/2/15

We went on an African Safari in Canberra at the National Zoo and Aquarium.

Photos taken by Nora Preston, except for the photos that I am in.

BENGAL TIGER (Panthera tigris tigris) is the most numerous of tiger subspecies. By 2011 the total population was estimated at fewer than 2,500 individuals with a decreasing trend. Gestation: 104-106 days; Height: 90-110 cm (at shoulder); Mass: 1kg on average (newborn), 140kg (female) 220kg (male). Roams a wide range of habitats including high altitudes, tropical and subtropical rainforests, mangroves and grasslands.

LONG-NECKED TORTOISE

LONG-NECKED TORTOISE.  The Long-necked Tortoise has 4 legs, with clawed webbed feet and does not primarily live in the water.  They walk a fair bit across land and only feed in the water.  The difference between Turtles is that they have flippers and they do live primarily in water.  Turtles only leave the water to lay eggs and then return to the water.

PATTING AND FEEDING A TAWNY NURSE SHARK (Nebrius ferrugineus) is a species of carpet shark in the family Ginglymostomatidae and the only extant member of the genus Nebrius. The most remarkable feature of the Tawny nurse shark is its ability to change colour between grey and sandy brown depending on the colour of its surroundings. This is a nocturnal shark that usually forages for food at night and rests under reef overhangs and caves during the day. At night the species feeds on a variety of bottom-dwelling lobsters, crabs, octopus and sea urchins as well as small fish. The females give birth to up to eight live young that have hatched within the uterus. Sharks feel like sandpaper and apparently sandpaper has been made out of shark skin, so make sure you check whether or not the next sandpaper you buy is made from shark skin, if it is, boycott it and don’t buy it. Find sandpaper that is not made from sharks or any other animal products. Don’t put your hands in the shark’s mouth when you are feeding them because you will get bitten as the shark goes for the food, as our personal guide found out.

I attended a meeting where a male person from the Government, Government Department who was a speaker claimed to be an expert in reptiles showing slides of them.  He may have been a Scientist.  He showed a slide of a Long-necked Tortoise and said that they live in the water and are turtles.  The tortoise was standing on land which I pointed out to him.  He angrily said that the tortoise was on land because he put it there to take the photo.  These are the people who don’t know what they are talking about who are lecturing, teaching, training the public in areas that they know absolutely nothing about.  How do these tortoises get run over on the road if they live in the water?  Show me their flippers and I will agree that the Tortoises are Turtles, but of course no one can do that either.

WARNING:  Protein from China used in animal and baby formula.

It is believed that the protein from China used in baby animal formula may be the cause of blindness in soft-furred animals as companies appear to be cost cutting and using inferior products.  Check the formula labels before buying them.  If they have China written on them, avoid them, and test the product for any contamination before using them.

I had this email sent to me asking me to further investigate this matter:

“…I was wondering,  if you have the latest information on Di-Vetelact, our Carers were having problems with animals getting cataracts.

I believe the SHARPE  company was importing Protein from China, which we thought may have been the problem, are you aware if this is still the case.

I have emailed the company, but am not getting a reply.   We have also been warned about Biolac, M100, M 150 seems to be ok but trouble starts with M 200.

My husband and I are elderly 83 and 80 years old and have been rearing joeys for 20 years, Possums, Wallabies and Eastern Greys.

I’m using Wombaroo at the moment, but am not having the same  results, as when I used Divet. Joeys are slower in putting on weight, I am adding baby Farex to each bottle now, which is working, 1/4 tsp each bottle.

Please if you can find the time, will you let me know if Di-Vet is safe again….”

I contacted Sharpe who advised me that they were getting their protein from New Zealand.  When I asked the Sharpe company manager/distributor where New Zealand was getting their protein from, he didn’t know. The problem is that wildlife have no lactose tolerance for cows milk or from any other animal that carries lactose that will kill them and it seems that the wildlife milk formula that we thought were safe do have cows milk powder included in the formula.

When I attempted to investigate Biolac, they didn’t answer my questions and instead sent me 2 threatening letters to gag me rather than trying to resolve the blindness that their product is causing that does not appear to be suitable for soft-furred animals.  As mentioned in the correspondence above, these carers are having problems from M200 Biolac and up. To see the Photos of the effect on joeys eyes caused by Biolac click on this link: https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2013/03/16/wildlife-carers-group-news-galah-avoid-biolac-snakes-molonglo-new-tams-minister-more-17313/

It was announced that this same protein from China will be used in baby formula, so check the labels on your baby formula and make sure that the protein from China isn’t on the label, if it is, don’t buy it, it’s not worth the risk.

GREYHOUND RACING CRUELTY USING LIVE PROTECTED NATIVE WILDLIFE AND OTHER LIVE ANIMALS AS BAIT

I judged the short film ‘Maiden’ and discovered the animal cruelty last year while judging the short films entered in the film awards.  Prosecute the greyhound owners, handlers, greyhound clubs, filmmakers of this film, the actors and the possum handler named in the film credits who were involved in tying up a baby possum/joey to a lure that dragged the joey on the ground for the greyhound that was then fed to the greyhound.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they really bashed the greyhound to death as well at the end of the film since greyhounds that don’t perform are tortured to death as well.  Director Stephen Kanaris, Producer Tahnee McGuire, Production Company: Hatch Film watched and filmed a baby possum being strapped to a mechanical lure while the greyhound ran after it. The lure was close to the ground as the possum could be seen being dragged along the ground. The greyhound was then allowed to rip the possum apart. The film was shot in Queensland, outer suburbs of Brisbane, with the filmmakers categorising the film as: “Anger, violence, immigration, isolation, animal cruelty”: http://www.shortfilmcentral.com/film/5449/ Please sign this petition for Animals Australia to shut down the violent Greyhound industry: http://www.greyhoundcruelty.com/?r=54eca134c80e3142479390854eca134c81c3

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs.

ACT Minister for Territory and Municipal Services

Chief Minister

A Moratorium on Kangaroo Killing in the ACT

The Animal Justice Party of Australia opposes the killing of kangaroos in the ACT by
your Government on three groun
ds: a) there is a serious decline in kangaroo numbers across the
ACT as a whole
, and on its nature reserves, with numbers drastically lower than the levels your
Government has its
elf advocated were needed to sustain its grasslands and its kangaroo
population, b) the killing program your Government has imposed involves gross animal cruelty
ofthe most grotesque kind, and c) the availabi
lity of successful ethical noharm alternatives
and exper
tise to implement them, including experience within the ACT, in situations where
kangaroo habitat ha
s been significantly compromised. At a minimum, the AJP calls for a
moratorium on the killing of kan
garoos until these matters are more properly considered by
yo
ur Government.

Last year, ACT Greens MLA Mr Rattenbury, now one of your Ministers, said he would
we
lcome independent research into estimates of kangaroo numbers in ACT nature reserves.
Thi
s research is nearing completion and early results have already been given to Mr
Ra
ttenbury. You and Mr Rattenbury have also in the past been presented with autopsy
ev
idence (from a highly respected forensic wildlife veterinarian) of severe brutality resulting
from the Government’s killing program last year. The availability and success of no-harm
al
ternatives such as translocation, including in the ACT and more widely, has also been brought
to the attention of both you and Mr Rattenbury.

We are disturbed now to read in The Guardian newspaper that Greens Minister Mr
Rattenbury has said: Without a predator, kangaroos have increased their abundance and have a
detrimental impact on the rest ofthe ecosystem’ , and the Greens have not opposed that cull’. If
Mr Rattenbury has peerreviewed and authoritative evidence that kangaroos have a detrimental
impact on the ecosystem why have we never been able to see it and have it independently
scrutinised? Where is the evidence of apparent ecosystem improvement from the previous four

years of kangaroo killing? This has been asked for many times and has never been
forthcoming. Clearly, Mr Rattenbury and the ACT Government are conveniently choosing to
ignore human ‘predation’ (housing and commercial development, killing programs) and their
vehicles and guns, wire fencing, out-of- control dogs and degraded habitat due to weed
infestation. The chance of a newborn kangaroo infant reaching maturity is now less than 20 per
cent
. If significant public funds are being spent on killing kangaroos to supposedly improve the
local ecosystem, the public needs to be able to scrutinise the results of this expenditure.

Mr Rattenbury, the ACT Greens and your Government have supported the brutal killing
of kang
aroos for four years. This is just one of many reasons why this country desperately
ne
eds an Animal Justice Party so that animals have an honest and passionate voice in this
country’s parliaments where decisions are made that impact on their wellbeing. This is the
reason why the AJP is standing ten candidates in the forthcoming federal election on September
14
, including for the Senate in the ACT, and why it will contest all jurisdictional elections,
including in the ACT
, from now on.

Attached (Attachment 1) you will see evidence from respected consulting wildlife
ecologist Ray Mjadwesch, author of the highly influential 2011 report: Nomination to List the
Large Macropods as Threatened Species under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act
1995. Mjadwesch says the numbers of kangaroos in the ACT are far from abundant and have
plummeted by around 75 per cent since white settlement. Indeed, there are now areas across
the ACT where kangaroos are locally extinct, or are threatened with local extinction
.

Mjadwesch’s analysis concludes:

28.3 per cent ofthe ACT is unsuitable habitat for Eastern Grey Kangaroos (EGKs) on
account of stee
p terrain, incorrect vegetation types etc.

• Eastern Grey Kangaroos are extinct in 20.5 per cent ofthe ACT, on account of human
occ
upation (city and suburban areas, and heavily modified rural landscapes)

• Kangaroos are under pressure across 29.9 per cent of the ACT, from agriculture (loss of
habitat and shooting), shooting in nature reserves, and from the softwood industry
(loss
/disruption of habitat)

• Kangaroo habitat in which EGKs are effectively conserved now occupies only 21.3 per
cent of Australia’s capital territory, down from 71.7 per cent of the ACT in 1788.’

This datasupported evidence stands in stark contrast to the ACT Governments own data
a
nd Mr Rattenbury’s statements suggesting ‘abundance’. There is no abundance of kangaroos
in the ACT. It is an urban myth perpetuated by those with a poor regard for our nation’s iconic
wildlife
. For this reason alone there is serious cause for concern and a need for a moratorium on
killing kangaroos to enable fuller investigation.

On Mr Rattenbury’s invitation last year, ACT citizens concerned about its wildlife have
been undertak
ing independent kangaroo counts on Canberra’s nature reserves, on which the
ACT Government k
illing program has been implemented in recent years. Ecologist Ray
Mjadwesch has provide
d instruction to this group of concerned citizens. Information about
previous Canberra killing pr
ograms under FOI suggest the methodology of kangaroo counting
used by ACT Government officials is superficial and highly inaccurate, with gross
exaggeration. Additional advice on vegetation cover has also been obtained by those carrying
o
ut the independent community science kangaroo counts. The four teams of ACT citizens
co
ncerned about Canberra’s wildlife have used GPS, compasses, range finders and their
particul
ar knowledge of kangaroo behaviour to examine numbers of kangaroos and vegetation
on
11 nature reserves at various times throughout the day in various weather conditions, to be
sure that many of the typical influencing variables are accounted for. A total of 43 separate
s
urveys were undertaken across the
11 reserves by ACT citizens concerned about Canberras
w
ildlife. Detailed reports on the habitat condition of every nature reserve compiled by these
teams are current
ly being completed.

While the final writeup of research on the 11 nature reserves is not quite complete, the
attached table (Attachment 2) gives an indication of kangaroo densities based on the survey
work completed. This data,
using the higherlevel count estimate figures from the four teams,
s
hows alarmingly low kangaroo densities, giving rise to concern that at these levels there will
be no sustainability in kangaroo numbers and they will decline to mere remnant levels at best,
given the many other
threats to their habitat and movement. It is important to be aware that
kangaroos are highly stressed animals and the ACT citizens concerned about Canberra’s
wildlife all noted in their survey work the differing behaviour on those reserves where k
illing
and harassment of kangaroos has occ
urred. Post-traumatic stress is a significant determinant in
reduced wildlife procreation and this has been noticed on ACT reserves in the lower levels of
at
foot infant offspring.

Chief Minister, in earlier planning documents the ACT Government has said it wanted
to have kangaroo densities at around one kangaroo per hectare on its nature reserves. More
recently, your officia
ls have stated that your target is now 0.5 kangaroos per hectare, or in dry
s
heep equivalent grassland carrying capacity terms around onetenth of a single sheep per
hectare, or onethirtieth of a single cow. While these figures are ridiculously low for a soft-
footed native animal that has existed in this country for 16 mi
llion years, the data now being
collected t
hrough community science in the ACT now actually show much lower kangaroo
densities, with the highest kangaroo density being a mere (maximum estimate) 0.378 kangaroos
per hectare
. The Goorooyaroo nature reserve has an estimated maximum kangaroo density of
just 0.099. Chief Minister, this equates to around one fiftieth of one sheep and around a
h
undred and fiftieth of a single cow in grassland carrying capacity terms. The averag
e
kangaroo density over the
11 reserves is only 0.208. This is plain environmental van
dalism.

Chief Minister, each year when a kangaroo kill program is carried out the Government‘s
rhetoric is always about how humane it will be and that it is carried out by well
trained
professional shooters, who only need one clean shot to the brain for an instantaneous death
.

We now know this is completely false. You earlier received the autopsy report of a kangaroo
killed during the 2012 kill. This autopsy report was completed by internationally known and
highly respected wildlife and forensic veterinarian Dr Howard Ralph. While this report is for
o
nly one rescued body, it is highly likely that many other animals suffered the same pitiful and
cruel fate as this random example. There are many photos of kangaroos dug up from the burial
pit by activists last year that show miss
shots to the head. These photos are also attached
(
Attachment 4).

In Dr Ralphs forensic report of 4 June 2012 (Attachment 3), we would like you to
focus on the very last paragraph which states (inter alia):

The above series of lesions indicates that the kangaroo was first shot, then bludgeoned
on the head and then stabbed in the neck. The evidence is consistent with the kangaroo
being alive until finall
y being exsanguinated and asphyxiated by a laceration to the
t
hroat. The kangaroo very likely suffered severe pain and distress for some time during
this progressive attack, until the fatal exsanguination and asphyxiation.

Chief Minister, you cannot possibly ignore this kind of extreme brutality to a sentient
being. To do so would demonstrate the worst kind of human behaviour; in which a wider right
minded community would have serious misgivings about who they have in charge of their city.
I
n this regard we draw your attention to the recent Cambridge Declaration of eminent
n
euroscientists and neuropsychologists (2012) in the presence of Professor Stephen Hawking.
That Declaration states (inter alia):

... the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the
neu
rological substrates that generate consciousness. Nonhuman animals, including all
mammals and bird
s, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these
neuro
logical substrates.

Chief Minister, clearly some kangaroos are at risk on Canberra’s nature reserves due to
habitat destruction, shooting by surrounding rural lessee farmers, weed infestation and
continued harassment by humans and dogs. In those reserves where kangaroo safety is at risk
we favour translocation to more habitatfriendly places as an ethical, successful, nokill method
of manageme
nt. The research by Ray Mjadwesch, summarised in the attached report from him
(Attachment 1), suggests there are plenty of areas in the ACT to which kangaroos could be
mo
ved.

The success of kangaroo translocation has been demonstrated in peer-reviewed
literature and in a recent example in the ACT. Such success depends on it being done
sensiti
vely by people with experience in kangaroo behaviour and translocation, as well as skills
a
nd a licence in chemical immobilisation. It is now not accurate for your Government to say
that the tran
slocation of kangaroos cannot be successfully undertaken. Indeed Chief Minister,
the AJP’s senate candidate for the ACT in the forthcoming federal election, Marcus Fillinger, is
a
highly qualified and licenced expert in chemical immobilisation. There are few others that
can boast his level of expertise in this area and he is available in the ACT.

Chief Minister, the cost to the ACT ratepayer of the 2012 ACT Government killing
program was more than $215000, or more than $186 for each of the 1154 kangaroos you had
slaughtered. Based on the costs of a recent kangaroo translocation program within the ACT
that had a one hundred per cent success rate, we know the cost of a nokill approach through
translocation is just
$24.20 per translocated kangaroo. Chief Minister, this cost is six times less
expen
sive than what you have spent on your killing program.

The cost savings of translocation rather than killing, include no need for security
per
sonnel and police, their travel and accommodation, no need for shooters, their travel and
acco
mmodation, no need for government rangers, no need for ammunition, no need for heavy
excava
tion equipment for burial pits, no need to close the nature reserves to the general public
for a continuous period, and no need to hire intensifier night vision / thermal imaging
equipment or encumber vital imaging assets from emergency services whi
ch in turn could cost
the lives of the gener
al public in an emergency.

Other benefits include avoidance of significantly increased protests and growing negative
p
ublic opinion, and learning about how to save animal lives, which requires considerably more
skill and knowledge than simp
ly killing.

Further information about kangaroo translocation costs in a delayed release situation are
found in the peer rev
iewed publication
http://www.awrc.org.au/uploads/5/8/6/6/5866843/garlick austen translocation2.pdf

Chief Minister, we have one other significant concern about the actions your
Govern
ment has taken with respect to kangaroo killing in the ACT and the recent statements by
Greens Minister Mr Rattenbury that
a cull is necessary. In a world where daily news about
violence has become all
consuming there is now peer-reviewed evidence that brutality to
a
nimals, and the depiction and support for animal brutality, leads to violence and cruelty by
humans against humans in our co
mmunities. For this additional reason it is not alright to
brutalise kangaroos as has occurred in Canberra in the past five years.

Chief Minister, in the past your Government has stated that in killing kangaroos it
applie
s the precautionary principlein relation to other ecological elements in the ACT. There
has ne
ver been any causal evidence that kangaroos have a deleterious impact on this ecology –
it is
purely associative evidence, which is not satisfactory in defending a program of native
animal killing on ecological grounds. Simple photographs of a fenced and unfenced area of
grassland are fa
r from sufficient scientific evidence. Chief Minister, if we are to operate under
t
he ‘precautionary principle’, let us have scientific uncertainty and growing public concern
resol
ved by detailed and independent analysis. In that regard a moratorium is the only decision
t
hat can be made. You will lose no votes with such a decision. How ‘true blue’ will you be in
thi
s year of ACT centenary?

  • Kangaroos in the ACT – a predicted model of distribution and abundance.
  • Attached graphic illustrates a model for distribution of Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the ACT in 2013,
based on kangaroo observations (Atlas of Living Australia (light blue triangles), scientific studies
(blue triangles) and community reports (pink triangles)), land-use, vegetation type and terrain
    phys
    iognomy.
Green indicates that suitable habitat exists in the unit, and there is protection for kangaroos (national
    park
/ conservation reserve). These units include open grasslands such as at Tidbinbilla, as well as
higher ranges comprising grassy forests, however it may be that wildfire has removed kangaroos
from some of the illustrated situations. If kangaroos persist they could be expected to occur at near-
normal densities in optimal habitat areas
(between 200-450 / km2, possibly at lower densities in sub-
    optima
    l habitats).

Note that green does not indicate that the whole square is suitable habitat, it just indicates that
some of the square is potential habitat
, and in this section of the square kangaroos can be expected
    to
persist at something approximating 1788 densities. In the south of the ACT (Namadji National
Park) the green is based on Banks descriptions of abundantkangaroos at his 4 study sites (2001).

Orange indicates locations where kangaroos generally persist in landscapes where they are not
protected, and where they are subject to impacts of human occupation, including rural lands,
remnants adjoining urban development or land bounded / bisected by roads, and conservation
    r
eserves in which shooting occurs. These areas formerly represented optimal kangaroo habitat
(expected 1788 densities 200-450 / km2), and this made these lands a target for agricultural
    deve
lopment historically. Given stated densities in these regions (TAMS KMP 2010) of around 40/
    k
m2 (in 1997) and a target density of 0.5/ha in the urban reserves, reductions in these areas could
be expected to be in the order of 80-90%.

Red indicates landscapes where kangaroos are under extinction pressure. This unit includes small
    isola
ted remnants, and cleared lands adjoining known / occupied areas and remnants. Kangaroos in
these areas are often in trouble (on roadsides, trying to navigate their way through cleared farmland
/ fences, etc), and are likely to have experienced decline in the order of up to 99% (may persist at
    densit
    ies of 1-5 / km2).

Black indicates areas where kangaroos are presumed extinct (likely 100% reduction). These areas
    a
re typically highly fertile landscapes, historically given to agricultural, and urban development,
including the CBD and suburbs, airport, highly modified agricultural landscapes etc. These units
    would
    previously have supported 200450 kangaroos / km2.

Gold indicates pine plantations. While kangaroos can persist in pine plantations, when harvesting
    occ
urs this is highly disruptive to populations, which generally disperse into surrounding landscapes
with often poor outcomes on local roads and in fences. Vegetation clearing also drives kangaroos
into neighbouring farmland, where they are frequently shot, and the cycle of pine planting and
harvesting, oft repeated, can push populations to critically low levels or extinction. For the purposes
    o
f this discussion Eastern Grey Kangaroo densities in pine plantations are estimated to be 90%
    r
    educed from 1788 levels.

White indicates habitats typically unused by Eastern Grey Kangaroos, principally on account of
steep terrain and generally unsuitable vegetation types being present. Dispersing animals may
sometimes be encountered in these habitats in low densities (negligible contribution to total for the
    ACT).

There are additional layers I would like to add to this graphic, including a density distribution map of
    shoo
ting statistics across the ACT (for the purposes of “damage mitigationand conservation
    c
ulling), to further illustrate the pattern of persecution across the territory. Further refinement of the
    pred
ictive model based on vegetation mapping of the ACT would also be an objective to finalise this
direction of my investigation, with reference to http://http://www.anra.gov.au/topics/vegetation/extentlactlindex.html.ln
    a
ddition there may be natural altitudinallimits to their distribution (max height of observations c.
1300m at Bulls Head), which I have not taken into consideration in predicting their possible
    distribution through the high country.

I am also in receipt of 46 data sets and hundreds of photos from community surveys across the
urban reserves, on which basis density calculations and population estimates are being produced.
    Th
ese do seem to vary significantly from the various TAMS pellet count and community survey
    esti
mates. All of this is obviously a lot of work to do however, particularly in an unpaid capacity, and
as I have paid contracts which require my attention at the moment, it will take some time to
incorporate these additional determinants into the model.

In the interim, the following summary provides an indicator of the order of magnitude of decline in
    kangaroos in the ACT:

    • 28.3% of the ACT is unsuitable habitat for Eastern Grey Kangaroos on account of steep
      terrain, incorrect vegetation types etc
    • Eastern Grey Kangaroos are extinct from 20.5% of the ACT, on account of human
occupation (city and urban areas, and heavily modified rural landscapes)
      • Kangaroos are under pressure across 29.9% of the ACT, from agriculture (loss of habitat
and shooting), shooting in reserves, and from softwood industry (loss of habitat / disruption)
      • Kangaroo habitat in which they are effectively conserved now occupies only 21.3% of
        Aust
ralias capital territory, down from 71.7% of the ACT in 1788.

Overall kangaroo decline (simple reduction in distribution and abundance) across the ACT is
expected to be in the order of 75.8%.

I have tried to be optimistic in allocating green to squares in the south of the study area, to ensure
    t
hat kangaroo distribution is not underestimated. It may be that tracts of potential habitat through
places like Emu Flat and Kangaroo Creek actually have no kangaroos, in which case the magnitude
    o
f decline will be greater than indicated above. If you just consider the top half of the ACT (down to
line 44) the order of predicted decline runs at around 88%.

Apart from page 15 of the TAMS KMP (2010) which obviates the need for further discussion on this
    top
ic (picture of ideal habitat“, but where are the kangaroos?), an irresolvable contradiction within
the culling program is simply demonstrated by the statement in the ACT kangaroo shooting program
    promotional
information, which describes kangaroos at densities of up to and exceeding 450/ km2
    a
t Yankee Hat without any significant impact on grassland / woodland conservation values.

Simultaneously impacts on grasslands by over-abundant populationsis exactly the reason cited for
    th
eir shooting in and around the city reserves, where TAMS have identified initial densities of only
    154
355 I km2, with aspirationall target densities of only 50-160 / km2 being described as
    sustainable” .

The ACT Government and TAMS are faced with a stark choice.

  1. Continue with an unpopular and seemingly unjustifiable program of shooting, even in the face of
emerging evidence clearly indicating significant and continuing decline in the subject species, or
  2. Operate under the precautionary principle, where scientific uncertainty can be resolved by
    detai
led and independent analysis of the findings of Or Fletcher, and of a parallel community
driven study on the kangaroos of the parks and reserves of the city precincts (in prep).

Given the amount of shooting which has already occurred (up to 80% of animals have been shot in
some reserves
), not shooting the kangaroos in the parks and reserves for a year, while this issue is
reso
lved, is not going to cause irreparable damage to ecosystems, which are reported to be affected
by the so-called
over-abundantkangaroos.

Or Fletcher’s local knowledge and input would be welcome, to further refine the attached predictive
mode
l for kangaroos in the ACT. It would be expected that groundtruthing sections of the landscape
and do
ing density studies in different land systems (for example pine forests) would allow more
accurate estimates
to be made. It may be that a simple walk to somewhere like Square Rock (L46)
would
render several green squares white (on account of habitat being unsuitable), for example.
Obviously further careful consideration of these and other factors affecting kangaroos across the
ACT wi
ll be required before there can be concluding statements on the situation there, however
initial impressions are cause for serious concern.

It should be remembered that the attached model is a startpoint for quantifying the distribution and
abundance of t
his iconic species across the ACT, in the face of ever-intensifying human impact, in
o
rder to initiate discussion about conservation of a species at risk.

In the longer term it seems inevitable that the future for kangaroos in the reserves of the city
precinc
ts will be untenable. Their decline as suburbs continue to swallow land, and their fate as they
are
forced onto roads and through fences is not a kind one, as groups are broken up and dispersed,
and as they are run over, chased by dogs and caught in fences. The current situation also places an
unfai
r onus of responsibility on wildlife rescuers and carers in the region.

The attached graphic illustrates the solution, as well as the problem, however. Populations
pers
isting in isolation (such as Crace, Mulligans, Majura, the Pinnacle, Mt Painter etc) may require
relocating for their o
wn sake; there seem to be ample landscapes within the system of reserves in
the ACT
to accommodate them.

A translocation program, including construction of release compounds and running a monitoring
prog
ram, should not exceed the current shooting budget, while providing a safe, humane and long
term solution to the problems faced by the kangaroos (and their managers) in and around Canberra.
Where locals do like and want their kangaroos, these communities will require assistance in
managing and protecting populations.

REPORT PERTAINING TO EASTERN GREY KANGAROO

On 4 June 2012, I was requested to conduct a post mortem examination on a young,
male Eastern Grey Kangaroo. The kangaroo weighed 16kg.

    POST MORTEM EXAMINATION

The nutritional status of the kangaroo was adequate.

The kangaroo was externally moist and the fur contained a considerable amount of
    dried and moist di
rt in small rolled balls attached to the fur. There was blood partly
    cover
ing the head, neck, front legs and chest. There were several wounds evident
    on the head and neck.

The first of these wounds was a small (0.5 to 1.0 cm diameter) rounded hole that
penetrated deeply into the tissue at the level
of the zygomatic arch and mid distance
    between the r
ight eye and the right ear. The penetration progressed in a line from

the small hole, through the soft tissue of the temporal, masseter and facial muscles
and out through the lateral area that was originally the mandible. That area showed a
    large (6
x 5 cm), irregular wound containing remnants of soft tissue and multiple small
fragments of mandibular bone and teeth
. The original structure of the mandible and
teeth was totally disrupted. There two wounds are consistent with a bullet wound
    entry above and exit below
    .

The second wound was at the posterodorsal (back and top) aspect of the head.
    There was conside
rable crepitus (crunching sensation) on palpation of the skull and
    the cran
ium was deformed and not intact. Incision over the scalp revealed
    haemorrhage benea
th the skin and multiple fractures of the cranial (skull) bone.

  • These bone fragments were easily moved to display a large amount of haemorrhage
within the skull and brain. The brain showed considerable external haemorrhage with
some also in the ventricles and brain substance
. This injury is consistent with a
crushing, blunt trauma to the skull and brain.

The third wound was on the right side of the neck about 4cm distal to the angle of
the mandible (point of the jaw)
, 3 to 4cm from dorsal (top) to ventral (bottom) and
2cm wide at the centre. The edges of the wound were regular and smooth consistent
with a sharp knife entry wound
. Within the wound there was blood from the jugular
    vein
, carotid artery and other smaller vessel that had been severed. A number of
muscles were divided (severed). The trachea was divided (severed) leaving a
    smooth surface on each fragment
. There was blood in both sections of the trachea
and extending down into the bronchi
    .

The skin of the neck was retracted and revealed subcutaneous haemorrhage
extending from the posterior skull along the dorsum (top) of the cervical area to
almost the level of the scapula and shoulder. This indicated that there was bleeding
from the head wounds during life.

The chest cavity was opened and contained lungs that partly contained air and partly
    conta
ined blood particularly on the right. The distribution of the air was consistent
with aspiration of blood during breathing
    .

The abdomen, hind limbs and lumbosacral spine were examined and did not reveal
    any abnormality
    .

    INTERPRETATION

The first wound to the face was consistent with a gunshot from above, the bullet
entering at the dorsal part of the r
ight hand side and exiting at the level of the
mandible and causing massive damage to that bone and teeth. That was likely to be
the primary wound of a series of three wounds and is not likely to have been fatal
    .

The second wound, to the skull and brain, caused extensive trauma/damage to both
    struc
tures and is consistent with blunt trauma caused by a blow with a heavy object.
Considering the bleeding along the dorsum of the neck and the series of three
    assaults on this kangaroo
, this trauma to the head was unlikely to have caused
    immediate death.

The third wound is consistent with a penetrating knife wound to the neck. The skin,
muscle, vessels and trachea were divided in such a manner as to be also consistent
    with a deep kni
fe injury. The presence of blood aspirated into the trachea, bronchi
and lung is consistent with aspiration before death
    .

The above series of lesions indicates that the kangaroo was first shot, then
bludgeoned on the head and then stabbed i
n the neck. The evidence is consistent
    w
ith the kangaroo being alive until finally being exsanguinated and asphyxiated by a
    laceration to the t
hroat. The kangaroo very likely suffered severe pain and distress

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP NEWS – WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENT – RSPCA CRUELTY; MORE LIVE EXPORT ANIMAL CRUELTY. 28/9/12

WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENT

Day 1: The student was given notes on First Aid/Some Basic Hints on Wildlife Rescue/Care: http://wcg.awardspace.com  (this website is not updated), click on the ‘animal care’ link. We covered animal welfare by visiting DAS (the dog pound-Domestic Animal Services), and then the rspca.  At lunch time while eating our lunch we discussed more animal welfare concerns and animal cruelty that was shown in the documentary ‘The Earthlings’, showing how ‘kosher’ cows are tortured to death, and Indian cattle that are sacred in India, and therefore are not allowed to be killed are forced onto a long agonising journey to where they can be killed, however, the journey is so long that some of the cattle drop to their death before reaching their destination or drop from exhaustion and therefore have their eyes pepper sprayed, have their tails broken to force them back up to continue their long agonising journey, and those that survive the long agonising journey are then tortured even more before they die, all for the sake of cheap leather.  Live animals are skinned alive all for the sake of the fur trade. The student watched the video on Day 1, and discussed ‘Earthlings’ on Day 2 with me, that she said made her cry.  Click on this link to watch the full documentary of ‘Earthlings’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19eBAfUFK3E

DAS have finally removed the bucket they kept in one of the afterhours pen’s for years, that small dogs could not reach to drink out of, and screwed in a metal bowl in both after hours pens, although they were both empty and dirty, with no water in them.

As the photos show, both pens were dirty stained with urine etc with the red gadget in the water bowl in this photo that could be deadly for a dog that could choke on it, left there for who knows how long and slowly die an agonising death.

In this photo, the red gadget is missing from the water bowl, more than likely chewed by a dog that may have choked on it and suffered a prolonged agonising death.

The padlocks have been returned to both gates, however we had a lot of trouble trying to close this gate, and the padlock cannot be used to lock the afterhour’s pen’s gate because of being incorrectly aligned. This gate has been incorrectly aligned for quite a number of years.  It is important to be able to lock these gates after a dog has been placed in them to prevent another dog from being placed into the same pen, to prevent a dog fight, serious injuries and death, or to prevent someone from letting the dogs out to be run down by traffic etc.  There should only be 1 dog placed in 1 pen.  These padlocks are really useless, that anyone can cut with bolt cutters.  They need more secure padlocks, and the afterhours pens need more insulation, and to be made more dog friendly with dog beds.

There was a lot of activity around in the dog pound with volunteers walking the dogs, but this poor dog, a lovely Rottweiler was left in a dirty pen.

The pen next to the pictured pen that had a German short-haired Pointer in it had urine all over the off floor bed and throughout the pen.

If you want a dog, or just want to save the German Short-haired Pointer (I didn’t get to take a photo of it) from being killed on Wednesday 3 October, then please rescue it, or just put some money down on it, and please do check on the pictured dog as well.

Unfortunately a female, who thought she was doing the right thing, got into the pen with German short-haired Pointer and was trying to convince us to buy the dog. She started off telling the dog to sit, giving the dog treats, however, the dog got sick of it and was more interested in us. The female simply did not know when to stop, to leave the dog alone and give the dog its space, and to get out of the pen.

Have you lost a German short-haired Pointer or the pictured dog, they are at the dog pound in Symonston, along with a lot of other small, medium dogs.

I didn’t take any photos of the rspca animals, however, a number of dogs had stiff frayed rags tied around their necks that would have been extremely uncomfortable for the dogs.

The rspca seem to forget that these are dogs and not people to be dressed up, the last thing these dogs need is stupid looking rags or anything else similar tied around their necks. They need to be left alone from this type of dressing up.

Each pen had dangerous squeaky toys that are filled with metal objects that make the noise in them, that will choke the dogs and cats and any other animal when ripped apart, slowly killing them.

Another volunteer at the rspca who locked herself into the pen with a dog, was also advised that the dog needs its space, and to watch the behaviour of the dog very closely that was also getting a bit agitated.

These dogs are out of their comfort zone in the rspca and TAMS DAS, in a very unfriendly, unfamiliar and stressful environment for them, locked up in pens. It is no place to lock yourself in with a dog and torment the dog. Even outside the pens, the environment is still unfriendly, unfamiliar and stressful, and the dogs are traumatised.

The rspca and DAS do have a green play area, so it is better for the dog to take the dog into the play area and spend some time with it out there, however, the dogs are still out of their comfort zone and in an unfamiliar environment, so watch the dogs behaviour, and know when to back off and give the dog some space.

The rspca had a rather expensive price for animals sign up outside the domestic animal section, as you walk towards the dog enclosures, to let you know how much the animals are. We saw a price tag of $400.  At these types of prices the rspca are doing more inappropriate and unlawful killing of healthy animals rather than the selling of healthy animals.

The rspca will never learn to put the welfare of the animals first, and to give them away to suitable homes for FREE to prevent killing healthy animals.

The rspca wildlife are kept in containers, the possums are escaping through open windows. Possums are extremely territorial. To allow possums to escape means serious injuries and a slow and agonising death to the possums from their injuries in possum fights.

There were 2 yellow canaries not looking too well from being kept inside the suffocating containers.

We asked to see other wildlife and where they were kept, but of course they said ‘no’.

It appears that the rspca wildlife are kept inhumanely in these containers, and have been for 2-3 months before they unlawfully trespassed onto my private property and stole my wildlife on 10/8/12. I received no response to the email I sent to the rspca from their website, warning them that they are not permitted to kill or sell any of my wildlife and that they will have to return them to me.  The only email I have received from the rspca is an email telling me that it has been sent to the appropriate person who will respond, with the appropriate person still failing to respond.

One story told is that the rspca building was infested and infected with something, and the other story is that the roof caved in, so the entire area is ribboned off, and you cannot get to any part of the building or surrounding areas.

Day 2: Notes handed to the student on Kangaroos and Diseases and an unsustainable Kangaroo Commercial industry, and Possum Rehabilitation given to her in advance to cover her for Day 3, since every Wednesday she is involved in another commitment. From the notes given to the student on Day 1, the student asked me whether or not she needs to have a rabies shot, to which I replied, only if she is going to be handling bats. We returned to the rspca to take photos. The photos show rspca animal cruelty.

The 2 yellow canaries were put outside this container on Day 2 of our visit, still all puffed up and unhealthy looking, however, this is another death trap for the 2 birds where they can, in a split second, be attacked and killed by magpies, currawongs or any other birds, through their cages.

2 Cockatiels in the window of the suffocating death trap container. Who did the rspca steal these birds from to keep in an inhumane container?  All windows in all the containers are air tight shut.  THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY.

On 10/8/12 the rspca unlawfully trespassed onto my property, stole my wildlife that were humanely kept in aviaries, after I ordered all of them off my private property, who refused to leave, with the rspca injuring my wildlife and making them sick while they mishandled and stole my wildlife, so that I had to scrub out the blood left behind in the aviaries caused by the rspca staff, just to take the vulnerable wildlife back to these suffocating tombs/death traps of containers for a miserable life, and had the cheek to slander my name with defamatory lies to the Canberra Times that the Canberra Times unwittingly printed, falsely accusing me of animal cruelty.

As you can see, backyard caring for wildlife is far more humane, especially by a long term expert such as myself, as opposed to taking any poor vulnerable dependent animal to the rspca.

I demand a public apology by this government, tams. the police, and the rspca for the unlawful trespassing and stealing of my wildlife, and the immediate return of my wildlife alive.

These pictures show animal cruelty. The only acts of animal cruelty committed to my wildlife were by the rspca, the ACT Government, their government department TAMS staff and the police who were involved, who I am also demanding a public apology from. The photos show that animal welfare and what was best for my wildlife was the last thing on the mind of the ACT Government, government department TAMS, the rspca and the police, and that neither of them care.

The police were contacted and requested to assist in raiding the rspca and seizing back Wildlife Carers Group wildlife, with a public apology, however, this has not eventuated. The ACT Government and TAMS were also contacted and requested to immediately seize back my wildlife and order them to be returned to me, with a public apology, this has not eventuated.

If you, and this includes the media, care about domestic animals and wildlife, you will want to avoid the rspca, and you won’t want to advertise for the rspca.

After taking these photos a blonde female came running out after me and asked me if I was dropping off wildlife to them. I said ‘no’.

Wildlife Carers Group will never give any wildlife to the rspca just so that they can unlawfully kill or sell them, mistreat them, mishandle and place them into unsuitable suffocating housing. We have our own experts to properly and humanely care for our wildlife, and quite obviously better housing facilities.

As the above photos show, Wildlife Carers Group is needed more than ever for our protected native wildlife, proper care and rehabilitation, proper education, proper protection to protect our wildlife under the wildlife protection laws that prevents the killing of protected native wildlife, and proper animal welfare.

We were about to revisit the rspca domestic animal section to take photos of the price sign, the poor dogs with the stiff frayed rags tied around their necks, and the inhumane dangerous squeaky toys in their pens when the rspca executive manager of animal welfare Glenn Howie came out stating that he was one of the exec directors, who I discussed the afterhours pens with, and asked him why they don’t educate DAS to install better afterhours pens. He said he was not happy with the rspca’s afterhour’s pens, and that it was upto the CEO Michael Linke to deal with DAS. Then a female joined us, who refused to give her name, but stated that she was also part of the exec directorate. How much taxpayers money is paid to all of these directors, ceo, while animals and wildlife suffer in their hands?

Glenn told me to leave before I got into a conversation about the afterhours lockups; they asked why I was taking photos. Well it was pretty obvious why I was taking photos.

I told the male we were going back into the domestic animal section, to which he said ‘no’ he wants me to leave and I have to have permission to take photos.

I ordered everyone off my property when they unlawfully trespassed and stole my wildlife from my private property on 10/8/12, however they ignored me and refused to leave, and yet they have the audacity to tell me to leave.

Well we did leave after I told them that I was a Wildlife Officer, to which he said, I was not, I argued back and stated, yes I am.

Wildlife Carers Group is also an animal welfare group that makes us Animal Welfare Officers as well.

Day 3: As shown in Day 2, the student was not available and had a large volume of notes to read through on Possum identification, care, treatment and rehabilitation.

Day 4: The student was sick and was emailed notes on Wildlife Carers Group submission on Molonglo and North Weston Developments, https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/wildlife-carers-group-submission-for-molonglo-and-north-weston-developments/ because education in wildlife habitat, and conservation is part of Wildlife Carers Groups Aims and Objectives.  Wildlife Carers Group submission shows the vulnerable species in these construction sites, unlawfully killed and driven to extinction.   The EPBC Act and NES has been breached by the government in section 146 that quite plainly states that the EPBC 1999 Act and NES  take precedence over all developments.  The student showed particular  interest in Day 2, and asked what was happening on the Molonglo and North Weston construction sites as we drove past.

Day 5: The student was sick and was emailed notes on the List of Exempt animals, wildlife and domestic animals that you do not need to hold a licence for.  Click on this link to view the Exempt List:  https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/wildlife-carers-group-publishes-exempt-list-wildlife-and-animals-that-you-do-not-need-to-hold-a-licence-for-51112/

CIT Wildlife Training Course

I was asked to find out who was teaching the Wildlife Training Course at the CIT, and how do you get to handle wildlife during the course.

I phoned the CIT and was told that the former rspca manager who was then employed by TAMS is teaching the CIT wildlife training course. It is unknown whether or not she is still employed by TAMS.

This is quite a concern, since we watched how she inhumanely roughly mishandles and mistreats wildlife, without using towels to handle them, to avoid shock, and injects them without placing them on a hard surface first in order to ensure that they are secure and stable, to ensure that the needle penetrates the right area aimed for, she roughly throws them around back into the cages, and loves to unnecessarily and unlawfully kill rather than take the time with what she thinks are the more common wildlife to rehabilitate.  None of this is a practice to be taught to students.  Wildlife Carers Group had to seize back one of our own wildlife that inappropriately ended up at the rspca because she wanted to kill it.

Injured, sick and orphaned Wildlife rescued are scared and traumatised.  They must be treated with gentle loving care.  Carefully wrapped in towels or blankets, gently spoken to at all times to calm them down, and gently treated at all times.

She takes the students back home into her own backyard where she rehabilitates the wildlife for the students to see the wildlife and work with them.

In the Canberra Times article on 11/8/12, where the rspca slandered my name with defamatory lies falsely accusing me of animal cruelty, the rspca also claim that you cannot rehabilitate wildlife in your own backyard, instead the rspca wants to put the wildlife into their suffocating death machine containers that is completely inappropriate for any animal. I’m sure that the rspca have found a lot of dead animals in those containers that have slowly suffocated to death or died from heat exhaustion in the warmer days.

MORE LIVE EXPORT CRUELTY

Please click on this link http://www.animalsaustralia.org/features/pakistan-live-export-disaster.php#comment36738 to read the ongoing violence towards our Australian sheep when 21,000 sheep were rejected by Bahrain and then dumped in Pakistan where they were clubbed stabbed and buried alive, and URGENTLY phone or email your MP to demand a TOTAL BAN ON ALL LIVE EXPORT. Follow Animals Australia advice on what to say.

I phoned my local MP, who was not available so advised the female who answered the phone who advised that they have to go along with the Labor Party’s policy and cannot change anything.

I further discussed the annual government unlawful violent killing in 2012 and the further 30+ permits that are handed out all year round, for the killing of our protected native Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the ACT, so the EGK’s are tortured to death all year round until they are driven to extinction, and that the government never count the EGK’s before killing them, they only count them as they kill them. I also discussed the unlawful entry and stealing of my wildlife on my private property by the government department TAMS, and the rspca and police because I took the government to court for animal cruelty, to stop the Kangaroo killing, to make changes to their dysfunctional Acts and Policies, so the government abused taxpayers money to try and scare me off, who are also abusing their jobs.

ELECTIONS – WHO TO VOTE FOR

I attended a council ‘meet the candidates’ forum. Neither Liberal, Labor or Greens are prepared to stop the unlawful violent killing of Kangaroos in the ACT. I have not had either of these parties assist me in the unlawful entry and stealing of my wildlife from my private property to provide a public apology and the return of my stolen wildlife alive.

The continued Violence is inevitable with any of the above parties if they are re elected or elected. For these parties to be in constant denial that the animals do suffer under their current system, is encouraging a violent society not only towards innocent vulnerable dependent animals, but towards the human race as well.

Taxpayers money will continue to be abused for their own personal gain and personal vendettas against anyone at all, with innocent people targeted, your property unlawfully trespassed, you will be viciously harassed, you will have your name slandered with defamatory lies for any reason at all, unless you hear of a public apology to me, and my wildlife returned to me alive, and these parties stop living in denial ignoring the facts, and unless these parties announce that they will terminate those involved in unlawful trespassing and stealing of wildlife from a private property, and terminate everyone involved in the unlawful violent killing and herding of our protected native wildlife on quad bikes. Our Kangaroos will be driven to extinction, unless it is announced that the killing will stop, and that this year was the last year that our protected native Kangaroos are killed, and that they will work with me and Wildlife Carers Group.

Eastern Grey Kangaroos are not only unlawfully killed annually by the government; the government hands out 30 + permits a year, all year round to property owners to kill protected native Eastern Grey Kangaroos.  It is inevitable that our native wildlife will be driven to extinction.

The parties are quite delusional and in denial to repeatedly falsely claim that the kangaroos are killed humanely, https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/protected-native-violent-kangaroo-killing-in-the-act-7-june-2012/ when they are not, who have been shown visual photographic evidence. You can check the links below for the reality.

So far none of these parties have agreed to work with the experts.   The government wish to continue to abuse taxpayers’ money by paying non experts and continue a violent society.   Our Bush Capital will be lost, ignoring the majority of over 80% who wish to maintain our Bush Capital, and will be taken over by concrete, overcrowding, disease.

The Council photocopied and displayed Wildlife Carers Group Molonglo and North Weston Developments Submission: https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/wildlife-carers-group-submission-for-molonglo-and-north-weston-developments/ .

I asked questions and pointed out that the Government was abusing taxpayers money and are in breach of the EPBC Act 1999 and the NES, Katy Gallagher the Chief/TAMS Minister denied it, the Greens Shane Rattenbury who is also the Chair person in the Legislative Assembly denied it, only commented on the pink-tailed worm lizard, but said show me the evidence, Jeremy Hanson from the Liberal Party said that the Molonglo and North Weston Developments will continue and that we need the housing.

We do not need more housing, the ACT is losing population because no one can afford to live in the ACT.  The cost of living in the ACT is currently the 2nd highest throughout Australia.  There are a lot of empty houses that no one can afford to buy or rent, which need to be investigated to determine exactly how many empty houses there are currently sitting idle in the ACT, with the price tags needing to be dropped to make them sustainable and affordable.

Much to the candidates surprise, after we took a break, I handed out Wildlife Carers Group Molonglo and North Weston Developments Submission to Jeremy Hanson, then to Shane Rattenbury, and then to Katy Gallagher.  As I handed out the document to each candidate I pointed out the paragraph and stated that this is where you are in breach, and then pointed out all the vulnerable species effected in their unlawful developments, and stated and these are all the species effected and added to Shane that there are more than just the Pink-tailed Worm Lizard that are effected in these areas.  Shane said that the colony has been moved.  It is absolutely impossible to move them.  How did they move the colony?  All 3 main parties are driving our native wildlife to extinction, not just the Eastern Grey Kangaroos, and are destroying our Bush Capital.

As far as the violent unlawful Kangaroo killing is concerned, it was also unanimous amongst all 3 parties with Jeremy Hanson who is in complete denial stating that it is humane, ignoring the visual photographic evidence that has been sent to him, https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/protected-native-violent-kangaroo-killing-in-the-act-7-june-2012/ Katy Gallagher saying that they have to keep the population under control, including other false rubbish such as they sit around the table with their experts, when they don’t, I have not been invited to sit in at any of their discussions on these matters, they do not know how many kangaroos there are, and as already pointed out, they do not count them, with the Kangaroos already being driven to extinction in the past, and having to be re introduced through the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and then re distributed throughout the ACT, and Shane said, we have discussed this many times.  Yes we have, and they still are not listening to the real experts and the facts. and are still in complete denial, that they are driving our protected native wildlife to extinction, that the killing is unlawful and violent, and are also covering up protecting the guilty, protecting the criminals who are responsible rather than terminating them from their jobs placing a total ban on them from ever working with animals again.  I also pointed out that the Kangaroos are being blamed for damages caused by cattle and people and that the nature reserves are there for native wildlife and not for cattle.  Nature reserves are not there for the sheep either.

I was not able to respond to the candidates false statements since I had already handed the microphone back.

A male sitting infront of me commented about the high water costs and will this be dropped.  Another ridiculous response by the candidates was that it was so high because no one is using the water and Actewagl are losing money on it.  Well that is too bad, they cannot charge us for what we are not using.  They can only charge us for the water we are using.  Actewagl cannot charge us for the building of the dam that no one wanted, other than the minority Government and politicians.  The fact is that Actewagl are charging us for the blowout cost of the dam as well, which again is unlawful.  Actewagl can only charge us for the water that we use.  Actewagl can sack their CEO, their Directors if they are losing money.  There are less people living in the ACT, therefore, we should be paying the least amount in our water rates, because we are going to use less water anyway, being a smaller population, and yet we pay the highest water rates than any other large state, and any other state in Australia.  This government rubbish about the water was aired on the news.

The cost of living will only keep going up as the government continues to pay non experts, CEO’s, Directors etc., with no one promising to terminate the employment such as the rspca, government officials, staff, who are not experts and who have abused taxpayers money.  None of the political parties have promised to start working with the experts and paying the experts instead to make sure that they get it right this time around.

It is a good idea to research all the other candidates running, find out their policies before you vote on 20 October 2012, and avoid voting for the main parties or any other party whose votes will be given to any of these 3 main parties, if you want to see change and experts consulted rather than the same old people who get it wrong over and over again.

If the media want to help stop the government crimes and cover up they can boycott all these candidates from the 3 main parties and stop advertising for them, until they offer me a public apology for a start with the return of my stolen wildlife alive, and terminate everyone responsible for the crimes that they have committed, and show that in wildlife matters the rspca is fired from the jobs and that they are working with me and Wildlife Carers Group, to further show that they will start working with the real experts in other areas, abolish land and water rates and ensure that we are only charged for our water usage, abolish the GST, stop the destruction of the Bush Capital, keep electricity costs right down, that the victims are treated as victims, and not treat the criminals as victims encouraging them to reoffend, to place top priority over public safety, public safety on roads erecting No Parking signs where they have been requested to, etc,

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/  (this page may now be closed to leave space for UC new students interviews)

don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

SEE the so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP SUBMISSION FOR MOLONGLO AND NORTH WESTON DEVELOPMENTS

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP SUBMISSION FOR MOLONGLO AND NORTH WESTON DEVELOPMENTS ACT

Preamble

The development of Molonglo and North Weston, will breach the intergovernmental agreements in urban Australia, that falls under section 146 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation act 1999 (EPBC) that states that the EPBC and NES will take precedence over all developments,
and will further have a huge devastating impact on matters of National Environmental Significance (NES) that include threatened species, migratory species and important ecological communities.

1 The Molonglo Plan for the Protection of Matters of NES

Any development will completely destroy these habitats, and their protected wildlife, through construction, their equipment, the labourers, the homes, the residents, domestic pets, more roads, pollution, etc, therefore, this development plan must be aborted, in order to maintain the bushland, endangered species, and bush capital.

2 Relationship between the NES Plan and ACT legislation including the structure plan for Molonglo and north Weston

Any development will completely destroy valuable matters of NES, through construction, their equipment, the labourers, the homes, the residents, domestic pets, more roads, pollution, etc, there is no fine line between wildlife and their habitat, that can separate them from the areas that are proposed to be developed, therefore, these developments must be aborted, in order to maintain the bushland, endangered species, and the bush capital.

3 Actions under the NES plan

All this proposed construction will completely destroy the endangered species and their habitat, through construction work, their equipment, labourers, the homes, the residents, domestic pets, more roads, pollution, etc, including the natural flow, food source, for aquatic and other wildlife, of the Molonglo river.

There is no fine line between wildlife and their habitat that can separate them from the areas that are proposed to be developed, therefore, these developments must be aborted, in order to maintain the bushland, endangered species, and the bush capital.

4. Protection of matters of NES

NES identified in the Molonglo valley and north Weston are:

  • White box, Yellow box, Blakely’s red gum grassy woodland and derived native grassland (Box-Gum Woodland);
  • Natural temperate grassland of the southern tablelands of NSW and the ACT (Natural Temperate Grassland);
  • Aprasia parapulchella (Pink-tailed worm lizard);
  • Polytelis swainsonii (Superb Parrot);
  • Lathamus discolour (Swift Parrot);
  • Merops ornatus (Rainbow Bee-eater)

Through this investigation and their own admittance, in this report, development will have an adverse effect on these endangered species, which will be driven to extinction, unless this proposed development is aborted in Molonglo and North Weston.

The Rainbow Bee-eater used to nest at Kambah, in the ’80’s, however, after the Murrumbidgee golf club, and other housing was developed in their habitat, they disappeared.

This rare protected and endangered wildlife are slowly disappearing from the ACT, because of over development of this state, and the destruction of wildlife habitat.

Destruction through Construction cannot be controlled, and is inevitable, through their use of their equipment, labourers, the homes, the people, domestic animals, pollution, more roads, building fences etc.

There is no fine line between wildlife and their habitat that can separate them from the areas that are proposed to be developed, therefore, these developments must be aborted, in order to maintain the bushland, endangered species, to prevent them from being driven to extinction, and the bush capital.

Concerns that were also raised in the questionnaire, is with diverting all the run-off waters into ponds and wetlands, and watering trees, will starve the nearby rivers, and will dry them up.

Long term devastating, destructive impact has not been considered, through the planning of blocking off run-off waters, that the rivers need, and destroying more wildlife and wildlife habitat in the bush capital, that the majority have already expressed, they wish to maintain.

The Murray River dried up just upstream of the Murrumbidgee junction, because of channelling waters away from the river.

Over treating natural waters, kills wildlife, and drives them to extinction, which will also affect human health, with too much chemical treatment intake.

Molonglo and North Weston need to be left alone, with no further habitat destruction and loss.

This will work towards the majority of the populations request, to maintain our bush capital, as native bushland, co existing with ALL our native fauna and flora, preventing extinction of our native flora and fauna.

VIOLENT PROTECTED NATIVE KANGAROO KILLING IN THE ACT – 7 June 2012

VIOLENT PROTECTED NATIVE  KANGAROO KILLING IN THE ACT – 7 June 2012

The activists need your help to slow down and stop the unlawful and violent killing in the Nature Reserves and to find injured Kangaroos and Joeys, miss shots, not a clean shot to the brain.

If you can help please phone Lara 0402 599 293 or Fiona 0410 745 793, who urgently needs your help to Patrol some of the nature parks, even if it is just sitting in your car. They will give you more instructions when you phone or get out there.

The activists have done an excellent job in uncovering the pits and the bodies filled with both in pouch and at foot Joeys with their mothers.

This is a violent killing again, and just shows us that this type of violence and breaches of their licences has been occurring in each annual violent kill.

With the ongoing crimes committed by the ACT Government and their agency TAMS, and their contracted shooters, today 7/6/12, I phoned police attendance 131444 and spoke to a male to report the crimes in the hope that they would arrest and charge the Conservator of Flora and Fauna, Daniel Iglesias, and their contracted shooters, and put a stop to the violent killing while they investigate the complaints.

Unfortunately after speaking with the sergeant, the person I spoke with, then phoned me back and said that they can’t do anything and to report it to the government department. I told him that all they will do is cover it all up, and do nothing.

Below are the horrific photos taken by the activists, evidence of the violence, once again innocent Kangaroos accused of crimes that they are not responsible for, killed because of cattle, the government department and shooters driving all over the nature reserves, digging pits, destroying the grasslands, woodlands and the remaining native wildlife in them.

17 Eastern Bettongs were already released into the Mulligans Flat reserve, and it appears, not only are the rangers and shooters in there blasting away at them, they are using poisoned baits for the foxes, that will poison the Bettongs and other protected native wildlife as well.

This Joey was found by the activists at Mulligans Flat that has been violently and unlawfully shot in the neck and jaw that the activists will be having autopsied by a vet.

This pit with the violently killed Kangaroos and their Joeys was found in Kama Nature Reserve by the activists showing unlawful practices, in breach of their licences, etc. exposing throat shots, partially severed Joeys and mature Kangaroos with smashed heads.

There is no room in our society for this type of violence, violent people like this, violent governments, violent government departments, who repeatedly allow this type of violence towards our PROTECTED Native Wildlife who are not responsible for the damages that they are accused of. A government and government department that year after year, deliberately mislead the media, the public, and when taken to court, also unlawfully mislead and deceive the Courts.

We don’t know what methods were used to count the Kangaroos, if they were counted at all. There is speculation that the Kangaroos were not counted at all.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT IN 2011.

WISHING YOU A VERY SAFE AND HAPPY YEAR FOR 2012.

There can be no discrimination against our native wildlife, all native wildlife are precious to our Eco system, in assisting to maintain a healthy well balanced Eco system, and will be protected, and rehabilitated equally.

Kangaroos, by signing this petition, and circulating this for us www.gopetition.com/petitions/saveallthe-kangaroos.html  .

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/

don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

Please check out this link: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx

that was in the Canberra times on 17/10/09, that completely refutes the allegations against the roos destroying grasslands, that was sent to maxine cooper, that were also ignored.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along.

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx  , with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the ‘letters to the editor’ section, titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11.

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

FRASER ISLAND DINGOES DRIVEN TO EXTINCTION

FRASER ISLAND DINGOES DRIVEN TO EXTINCTION

UPDATE-Since this Wildlife Carers Group report, there was a massive bush fire on Fraser Island, that was started by the Qld Government.

The fire was out of control, devastating the Dingo population on Fraser Island, which will dramatically drop the original population of 90 Dingoes at the end of August 2011.

On 27-28 August 2011, we travelled to Fraser Island to see the last of the pure strain Dingoes, that Fraser Island is so famous for.

We saw no Dingoes, just footprints in the sand on the beach, and on the sandy track the 4WD drove down on, showing footprints from only 1 Dingo.

Photos by NORA PRESTON.

Dingo footprint in the sandy track we drove down on left by only 1 Dingo.

Dingo footprints along the sand on the Beach left by only 1 Dingo

Dingo footprints on the sandy beach by the Pinnacles coloured sands area.

At the rate that the Fraser Island rangers are killing our native dingoes, with only 60-80, (although with footprints only seen from 1 Dingo, this last recorded population is arguable,) suffering dingoes left alive on the Island, through the arrogance, mistreatment and mismanagement of the dingoes by the rangers, the dingoes, footprints in the sand will be the only memory and evidence of the native dingoes existence left, that once lived on the Island, but only if they encase the footprints, along with stuffed dingo toys and photos. I have my photos.

The Footprints were all heading in the same direction.

Terminating the rangers from their jobs, who are responsible for the inhumane treatment of dingoes on Fraser Island, click on the youtube link to hear ABC radio interview, and pictures of dingoes with invasive large collars, 2 boxes, with 2 antennas, that are not fit for any animal use: click or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be, terminating rangers from their jobs, who are paid with taxpayers money, who are starving the Dingoes to death, mismanaging them, mistreating them will prevent driving these spectacular native wildlife species to extinction, and help end acts of animal cruelty. Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs, throughout the entire Island. We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 60-80 Dingoes that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, by the rangers and the Qld government, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade that it currently holds. This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.

Dingoes used to live as semi tame, semi wild animals amongst the indigenous population, who did indeed throw them food to keep them happy, so therefore, had no problems with any of the Dingoes.

Along came the Qld government and the rangers with 5 minutes of training, no expertise or knowledge, and especially with no understanding or caring of the species, who are inhumanely eradicating the species from Fraser Island, inhumanely interfering with the species natural co existence.

The Qld government and the rangers are responsible for turning this species into an aggressive animal by hitting them with sling shots, poisoning them to teach them a lesson so that they won’t take food from people, once the dingoes are dead from being deliberately poisoned by these incompetent rangers, they are dead, they most certainly won’t be eating any more food foolstop, and the further abuse and mistreatment, mismanagement of the Fraser Island Dingoes by the rangers and Qld government, as pointed out below:

The Dingoes food source has been removed by the rangers, rangers interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence, food source, which needs human interference to replace the Dingoes food source.

The Dingoes are being trapped using an inhumane so called  SOFT jaw leg traps, that while the rangers claim they won’t hurt the Dingoes, refuse to test the traps by placing their own arms into the traps to test whether or not they will injure the Dingoes, rangers interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence.  All traps must be removed and banned from use.

The Dingoes have been shot with tranquiliser guns, and ear tagged, interference with the Dingoes natural co-existence by the rangers, with the ear tags causing ear infections, and interfering with the Dingoes natural ability for hunting. Ear tags must be removed.

In 2011, we saw the return of the horrific, invasive and inhumane large collar, with the Dingoes being shot with tranquilliser guns, click or copy and paste this youtube link into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be, to see the invasive large collar, with 2 boxes and antennas attached, rangers again interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence, that gets stuck in bushes, that effects their ability to hunt. Dingoes cannot call out for help when distressed by these hideous tracking collars, for any ranger to be able to quickly remove the collars, to prevent a prolonged suffering death.

Dingoes are unnecessarily shot by trigger happy rangers, driving the last of the pure strain Dingoes to extinction.

The shooting must be stopped.

Dingoes interact by biting during their play.

If you corner a Dingo, harass it, chase it, you can expect the Dingo to turn and attack in its own defence.

None of these are good enough reasons to shoot or poison Dingoes.

Tourists and rangers are speeding along the beach in their 4WD’s, totally out of control, deliberately aiming for the Dingoes and running them down. The hideous collars are effecting the dingoes agility, interfering with the Dingoes natural co-existence.

The tracking collars must be immediately removed:

A dingo has died after being struck by a 4WD on Fraser Island’s Eastern Beach. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Great Sandy Marine Regional manager Ross Belcher said the dingo “veered into” the tourist’s vehicle as it travelled along Eastern Beach near Dilli Village on Wednesday. “There were two dingoes on the beach – one veered away from the vehicle and one veered into the vehicle and was struck in the head and killed instantly,” he said. Mr Belcher said the dingo was about four years old and was one of 18 collared dingoes. The collars send GPS signals every two hours. “Tracking information confirms that it spent most of its time on Eastern Beach between Dilli Village and Cathedral Beach, which indicates it was likely to be a habitual animal. “Statistically, the more time a dingo spends in high traffic areas, the greater risk of being hit by a vehicle.” Mr Belcher says the dingo was in excellent condition, weighing 22 kilograms. The average weight of an adult dingo is 15kg. “It was collared in May when its weight was recorded as 19.5kg, which means it had put on a healthy 1.5kg since it had the collar attached.” There was no indication that the dingo, the second to have been hit and killed by a car in the past two years, was pregnant. According to dingo conservationists, only 60 to 80 dingoes remain on Fraser Island. They are the last pure strain of dingo left and qualify as an endangered species. The GPS collar project was aimed at gathering information about the movement of dingoes. QPWS hopes it will give them a better understanding of the prey species that are on the island. Ref:FC Chronicle

The dingo killed was pregnant, the weight increase was due to the pups she was carrying inside her.

2 Dingoes were hit by vehicles in the same week, in August 2011, and killed.

Documents released to SFID (Save Fraser Island Dingoes) under Right to Information laws show 14% of male dingoes being autopsied by DERM (Dept of Environment and Resource Management), had been killed by a vehicle strike.

SFID wants derm to increase vehicle strikes offences to be a more serious offence. Ref: FC Chronicle.

It goes without saying that if drivers are deliberately running down native wildlife, that these drivers need to be prosecuted.

To prevent our Dingoes from just being a memory of only stuffed toys, encased footprints in the sand, and photos left of them:

Dingo pup stuffed toy bought at Eurong Beach Resort shops

Dingoes most certainly need to be placed onto the endangered list, and listed as an endangered species, providing the species with full protection, including full protection from the rangers and the qld government.

With the rangers shooting the dingoes, interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence: removing their food source, collaring, ear tagging, etc, that are causing suffering and death to the Dingoes, and tourists running the Dingoes down in their vehicles, or their hired vehicles, there is no hope for survival for the Fraser Island Dingoes, unless the Prime Minister and the Qld Government make immediate changes to Fraser Island legislation, constitution, tourists, ban all tourists from bringing their vehicles onto the Island, Tours only run by accredited, responsible tour guides, who must drive carefully, drop the speed limit from 30 to 10-20km/hr around the Island and beaches.

To conserve the beaches, driving along the beaches needs to be banned. There is life in the sand that is also being driven to extinction with the pressure and destruction caused by the constant beach drives.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along:

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUZrKj6ClBg ‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related, so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species.

Possum Abattoir – Lenah Game Meats, Tasmania —EngageMedia

These animals are still alive and awake, when going through the abattoir’s chute processing system, dropped on top of one another, through a swinging door, to go through to the next phase, with several possums piled on top of one another, into the same boxes, when delivered to the abattoir, (possums are extremely territorial,) females with joeys, butchered, and bashed to death. Please Help stop these extreme acts of animal cruelty and export. You can help stop these extreme acts of animal cruelty to these possums by adding the above link to the possum abattoir and lodging your submissions by 23/4/10, to: wta@environment.gov.au, wildlife.enq@dpipwe.tas.gov.auand click on link: http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/trade-use/invitecomment/brushtail-possum.html Submissions are now closed. Shutting down this industry will help end acts of animal cruelty, and prevent this species from being driven to extinction. This species maintains a healthy, well balanced eco system.

Dingoes

Terminating the rangers from their jobs, who are responsible for the inhumane treatment of dingoes on Fraser Island, click or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be, who are starving them to death, mismanaging them, mistreating them will prevent driving these spectacular native wildlife species to extinction, and help end acts of animal cruelty. Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs. We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 60-80 Dingoes that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, by the rangers and the Qld government, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade it currently holds, which will end Fraser Island tourism. This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.
