WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP NEWS – KANGAROOS; HIT AND RUN TORTOISE 1/4/13

We hope that you have a had a Happy Easter break.

Click on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1649024860&v=info
and Twitter
http://twitter.com/wildlifecarersg/ to read some of our updates. Unfortunately not all of our hard work gets published on Facebook and Twitter either with the huge volume of work that we do.

Wildlife Carers Group phone has been ringing off the hook as usual with possibly some calls being lost. If we haven’t returned your call you either forgot to leave your number, left the wrong number, we couldn’t decipher your message, or through congestion your call somehow got lost.

Please speak clearly and loudly into the microphone on your phone, tell us the reason why you are calling, leave your name and contact number, repeat your contact number twice. We don’t have time to return calls to callers who fail to give us the reason for their call. The call must be wildlife and animal welfare related.

KANGAROOS COUNT WITH ONGOING FALSE ALLEGATIONS

I have checked out the Friends of Mount Painter (FOMP) website where they blame the large number of Kangaroos for destruction of plants due to grazing.

An article in the Canberra Times (CT) on Friday 22 March 2013, ‘News’ Section p.7 with the subject heading ‘Majura roos in sights of cullers’ written by John Thistleton and Larissa Nicholson who interviewed Friends of Mount Majura (FOMM) also falsely accuse the Kangaroos of destroying seedlings that they have planted in fenced off areas and falsely state that there are a large number of roos.

Daniel Iglesias in the same article from TAMS tries to state that FOMM observation is science.

This type of research has already been undertaken, with one section being fenced off with no Kangaroos. The vegetation in this section died off because there were no Kangaroos in the fenced off section due to no grazing, stimulating the vegetation to regrow.

Another section was fenced off with Kangaroos. The vegetation in this section thrived due to the grazing of the Kangaroos, stimulating the vegetation regrowth.

This clearly shows that FOMM have their story back the front in the above CT article.

Kangaroos and the grazing of the Kangaroos is extremely important as the Kangaroos only skim off the highest, tough growth of plants, exposing tender shoots, stimulating vegetation regrowth.

While the Friends of Mount Painter have counted the Kangaroos in 2013 with volunteers for TAMS, their count is overly excessive as usual. They more than likely saw 4 Kangaroos and added 2 zeros to the end of the figure as it was reported to me that they counted 400 Kangaroos on Mount Painter. I haven’t been able to find anything on their website to confirm that FOMP counted 400 Kangaroos.

Animal Liberation has also been calling on volunteers to count the Kangaroos using a more scientific method and counted just 80 Eastern Grey Kangaroos on Mount Painter.

With the over killing going on of our Eastern Grey Kangaroos, not only by the government, but by property owners, and then vehicle strikes, natural predators that also includes humans who haven’t been issued with a permit, etc, our Eastern Grey Kangaroos (macropods) will be driven to extinction, and that will also have a devastating effect on our vegetation.

Killing is violent and unlawful. All macropods are native. All native wildlife are protected under the wildlife protection laws.

It is unlawful to kill native wildlife.

Macropods maintain a healthy well balanced eco system.

1. Please help us make a difference and sign this petition as individuals and circulate through facebook, twitter, your own website etc that will not only help stop violent Kangaroo killing but will also help to stop the development on the 2008 Kangaroo killing fields on the bnts site to encourage the government to turn the site and the surrounding areas into Wildlife Carers Group proposed Memorial Kangaroo Park and Wildlife Sanctuary: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-all-the-kangaroos.html

HIT AND RUN LONG-NECKED TORTOISE

Wildlife Carers Group received a call on the pictured Long-necked Tortoise below. This tortoise was hit by a car with the driver then driving off and leaving it there to die. The finder wanted to use some sort of machinery on it which I promptly disallowed and asked him to drop it off to me.   I also advised him that any treatment needed for the tortoise will be treated humanely by the vet.  Tortoise shells are made up of bones, nerves, spinal chord etc, they can feel everything through the shell.  Avoid scrubbing their shells using harsh brushes.  Only use a very soft cloth with warm water, and very gently wipe the shell lightly in a circular motion.

We have received worse cases of injuries due to vehicle strikes.

Tortoises and other reptiles are on the move to go into hibernation. Please drive carefully and give way to our native wildlife. Our native wildlife are dependent on you to slow down and to watch out for them.

Photos: NORA PRESTON

Vet examining the tortoise. Underside (ventral surface) of the shell (known as the plastron) showing dirt and a minor plastron wound. The tortoise shell is a highly complicated shield for the ventral and dorsal parts of the tortoise, completely enclosing all the vital organs of the tortoise including the head that the tortoise can pull in. It is constructed of modified bony elements such as the ribs, parts of the pelvis and other bones found in most reptiles. The bone of the shell consists of both skeletal and the dermal bone, showing that the complete enclosure of the shell probably evolved by including dermal armor into the rib cage. On the plastron there are 2 gular scutes at the front, followed by a pair of pectorals, then abdominals, femorals and lastly anals.

The top of the tortoise shell (known as the carapace) shows signs of an abnormal growth and green algae on the shell

The vet cleaned up the tortoise using a soft cloth and water.

The tip of the sides of the shell is abnormally curled up.

The membrane can be seen under the neck of the tortoise where the tortoise was injected on both sides with antibiotics and a vitamin B complex.

The vet had to pry out the head of the tortoise to examine the tortoise further. This tortoise is anaemic and thin.

The vet then had to pry open the mouth of the tortoise using a toothpick.

The vet then injected the tortoise on one side of the membrane with Enrofloxacin.

On the other side of the membrane the tortoise was injected with a Vitamin B complex.

Tortoise is orally treated with Panacur using a syringe without a needle in it.

WISHING YOU A VERY SAFE AND HAPPY YEAR FOR 2013.

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, http://www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan%E2%80%A6/comment-page-1/(this page may now be closed to leave space for UC new students interviews)
don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problemand in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest’contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

This statement is admitting to the flawed, dishonest kangaroo management plan, and russell watkinson’s media release, on Friday 18/6/10, that blames the kangaroos for driving legless lizards, earless dragons, etc, and the deteriorating grasslands and woodlands to extinction, by eating all the grasses, when fletcher admits that the native grasses are not threatened by the kangaroos, but by human activity, including toxic sprays.

Please check out this link: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx
that was in the Canberra times on 17/10/09, that completely refutes the allegations against the roos destroying grasslands, that was sent to maxine cooper, that were also ignored.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along.

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx, with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the’letters to the editor’section titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11.

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’,that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related

SEE the so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species. Native protected animals called pests, the very same native animals that maintain a healthy well balanced eco system. The code of practice that the shooter refers to is inhumane, and unacceptable, as witnessed in this video footage. Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders),causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59.

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

Terminating the rangers from their jobs, who are responsible for the inhumane treatment of dingoes on Fraser Island , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be
who are starving them to death, mismanaging them, mistreating them, will prevent driving these spectacular native wildlife species to extinction, and help end acts of animal cruelty. Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs. We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and can offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 90 odd Dingoes, population estimation as of 28-29 August 2011, (since the mismanaged Fraser Island fire by the Qld government, this Dingo population has more than likely dropped dramatically), that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade it currently holds, which will end Fraser Island tourism. This species maintains a healthy well balanced ecosystem.

VIOLENT PROTECTED NATIVE KANGAROO KILLING IN THE ACT – 7 June 2012

VIOLENT PROTECTED NATIVE  KANGAROO KILLING IN THE ACT – 7 June 2012

The activists need your help to slow down and stop the unlawful and violent killing in the Nature Reserves and to find injured Kangaroos and Joeys, miss shots, not a clean shot to the brain.

If you can help please phone Lara 0402 599 293 or Fiona 0410 745 793, who urgently needs your help to Patrol some of the nature parks, even if it is just sitting in your car. They will give you more instructions when you phone or get out there.

The activists have done an excellent job in uncovering the pits and the bodies filled with both in pouch and at foot Joeys with their mothers.

This is a violent killing again, and just shows us that this type of violence and breaches of their licences has been occurring in each annual violent kill.

With the ongoing crimes committed by the ACT Government and their agency TAMS, and their contracted shooters, today 7/6/12, I phoned police attendance 131444 and spoke to a male to report the crimes in the hope that they would arrest and charge the Conservator of Flora and Fauna, Daniel Iglesias, and their contracted shooters, and put a stop to the violent killing while they investigate the complaints.

Unfortunately after speaking with the sergeant, the person I spoke with, then phoned me back and said that they can’t do anything and to report it to the government department. I told him that all they will do is cover it all up, and do nothing.

Below are the horrific photos taken by the activists, evidence of the violence, once again innocent Kangaroos accused of crimes that they are not responsible for, killed because of cattle, the government department and shooters driving all over the nature reserves, digging pits, destroying the grasslands, woodlands and the remaining native wildlife in them.

17 Eastern Bettongs were already released into the Mulligans Flat reserve, and it appears, not only are the rangers and shooters in there blasting away at them, they are using poisoned baits for the foxes, that will poison the Bettongs and other protected native wildlife as well.

This Joey was found by the activists at Mulligans Flat that has been violently and unlawfully shot in the neck and jaw that the activists will be having autopsied by a vet.

This pit with the violently killed Kangaroos and their Joeys was found in Kama Nature Reserve by the activists showing unlawful practices, in breach of their licences, etc. exposing throat shots, partially severed Joeys and mature Kangaroos with smashed heads.

There is no room in our society for this type of violence, violent people like this, violent governments, violent government departments, who repeatedly allow this type of violence towards our PROTECTED Native Wildlife who are not responsible for the damages that they are accused of. A government and government department that year after year, deliberately mislead the media, the public, and when taken to court, also unlawfully mislead and deceive the Courts.

We don’t know what methods were used to count the Kangaroos, if they were counted at all. There is speculation that the Kangaroos were not counted at all.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT IN 2011.

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders), causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59.

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

Possum Abattoir – Lenah Game Meats, Tasmania — EngageMedia

These animals are still alive and awake, when going through the abattoir’s chute processing system, dropped on top of one another, through a swinging door, to go through to the next phase, with several possums piled on top of one another, into the same boxes, when delivered to the abattoir, (possums are extremely territorial,) females with joeys, butchered, and bashed to death. Please Help stop these extreme acts of animal cruelty and export.

You can help stop these extreme acts of animal cruelty to these possums by adding the above link to the possum abattoir and lodging your submissions by 23/4/10, to wta@environment.gov.au

This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.
