FRASER ISLAND DINGOES DRIVEN TO EXTINCTION

FRASER ISLAND DINGOES DRIVEN TO EXTINCTION

UPDATE-Since this Wildlife Carers Group report, there was a massive bush fire on Fraser Island, that was started by the Qld Government.

The fire was out of control, devastating the Dingo population on Fraser Island, which will dramatically drop the original population of 90 Dingoes at the end of August 2011.

On 27-28 August 2011, we travelled to Fraser Island to see the last of the pure strain Dingoes, that Fraser Island is so famous for.

We saw no Dingoes, just footprints in the sand on the beach, and on the sandy track the 4WD drove down on, showing footprints from only 1 Dingo.

Photos by NORA PRESTON.

Dingo footprints along the sand on the Beach left by only 1 Dingo

Dingo footprints on the sandy beach by the Pinnacles coloured sands area.

At the rate that the Fraser Island rangers are killing our native dingoes, with only 60-80, (although with footprints only seen from 1 Dingo, this last recorded population is arguable,) suffering dingoes left alive on the Island, through the arrogance, mistreatment and mismanagement of the dingoes by the rangers, the dingoes, footprints in the sand will be the only memory and evidence of the native dingoes existence left, that once lived on the Island, but only if they encase the footprints, along with stuffed dingo toys and photos. I have my photos.

The Footprints were all heading in the same direction.

Terminating the rangers from their jobs, who are responsible for the inhumane treatment of dingoes on Fraser Island, click on the youtube link to hear ABC radio interview, and pictures of dingoes with invasive large collars, 2 boxes, with 2 antennas, that are not fit for any animal use: click or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be, terminating rangers from their jobs, who are paid with taxpayers money, who are starving the Dingoes to death, mismanaging them, mistreating them will prevent driving these spectacular native wildlife species to extinction, and help end acts of animal cruelty. Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs, throughout the entire Island. We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 60-80 Dingoes that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, by the rangers and the Qld government, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade that it currently holds. This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.

Dingoes used to live as semi tame, semi wild animals amongst the indigenous population, who did indeed throw them food to keep them happy, so therefore, had no problems with any of the Dingoes.

Along came the Qld government and the rangers with 5 minutes of training, no expertise or knowledge, and especially with no understanding or caring of the species, who are inhumanely eradicating the species from Fraser Island, inhumanely interfering with the species natural co existence.

The Qld government and the rangers are responsible for turning this species into an aggressive animal by hitting them with sling shots, poisoning them to teach them a lesson so that they won’t take food from people, once the dingoes are dead from being deliberately poisoned by these incompetent rangers, they are dead, they most certainly won’t be eating any more food foolstop, and the further abuse and mistreatment, mismanagement of the Fraser Island Dingoes by the rangers and Qld government, as pointed out below:

The Dingoes food source has been removed by the rangers, rangers interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence, food source, which needs human interference to replace the Dingoes food source.

The Dingoes are being trapped using an inhumane so called  SOFT jaw leg traps, that while the rangers claim they won’t hurt the Dingoes, refuse to test the traps by placing their own arms into the traps to test whether or not they will injure the Dingoes, rangers interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence.  All traps must be removed and banned from use.

The Dingoes have been shot with tranquiliser guns, and ear tagged, interference with the Dingoes natural co-existence by the rangers, with the ear tags causing ear infections, and interfering with the Dingoes natural ability for hunting. Ear tags must be removed.

In 2011, we saw the return of the horrific, invasive and inhumane large collar, with the Dingoes being shot with tranquilliser guns, click or copy and paste this youtube link into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSaknF6Wnw&feature=youtu.be, to see the invasive large collar, with 2 boxes and antennas attached, rangers again interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence, that gets stuck in bushes, that effects their ability to hunt. Dingoes cannot call out for help when distressed by these hideous tracking collars, for any ranger to be able to quickly remove the collars, to prevent a prolonged suffering death.

Dingoes are unnecessarily shot by trigger happy rangers, driving the last of the pure strain Dingoes to extinction.

The shooting must be stopped.

Dingoes interact by biting during their play.

If you corner a Dingo, harass it, chase it, you can expect the Dingo to turn and attack in its own defence.

None of these are good enough reasons to shoot or poison Dingoes.

Tourists and rangers are speeding along the beach in their 4WD’s, totally out of control, deliberately aiming for the Dingoes and running them down. The hideous collars are effecting the dingoes agility, interfering with the Dingoes natural co-existence.

The tracking collars must be immediately removed:

A dingo has died after being struck by a 4WD on Fraser Island’s Eastern Beach. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Great Sandy Marine Regional manager Ross Belcher said the dingo “veered into” the tourist’s vehicle as it travelled along Eastern Beach near Dilli Village on Wednesday. “There were two dingoes on the beach – one veered away from the vehicle and one veered into the vehicle and was struck in the head and killed instantly,” he said. Mr Belcher said the dingo was about four years old and was one of 18 collared dingoes. The collars send GPS signals every two hours. “Tracking information confirms that it spent most of its time on Eastern Beach between Dilli Village and Cathedral Beach, which indicates it was likely to be a habitual animal. “Statistically, the more time a dingo spends in high traffic areas, the greater risk of being hit by a vehicle.” Mr Belcher says the dingo was in excellent condition, weighing 22 kilograms. The average weight of an adult dingo is 15kg. “It was collared in May when its weight was recorded as 19.5kg, which means it had put on a healthy 1.5kg since it had the collar attached.” There was no indication that the dingo, the second to have been hit and killed by a car in the past two years, was pregnant. According to dingo conservationists, only 60 to 80 dingoes remain on Fraser Island. They are the last pure strain of dingo left and qualify as an endangered species. The GPS collar project was aimed at gathering information about the movement of dingoes. QPWS hopes it will give them a better understanding of the prey species that are on the island. Ref:FC Chronicle

The dingo killed was pregnant, the weight increase was due to the pups she was carrying inside her.

2 Dingoes were hit by vehicles in the same week, in August 2011, and killed.

Documents released to SFID (Save Fraser Island Dingoes) under Right to Information laws show 14% of male dingoes being autopsied by DERM (Dept of Environment and Resource Management), had been killed by a vehicle strike.

SFID wants derm to increase vehicle strikes offences to be a more serious offence. Ref: FC Chronicle.

It goes without saying that if drivers are deliberately running down native wildlife, that these drivers need to be prosecuted.

To prevent our Dingoes from just being a memory of only stuffed toys, encased footprints in the sand, and photos left of them:

Dingo pup stuffed toy bought at Eurong Beach Resort shops

Dingoes most certainly need to be placed onto the endangered list, and listed as an endangered species, providing the species with full protection, including full protection from the rangers and the qld government.

With the rangers shooting the dingoes, interfering with the Dingoes natural co existence: removing their food source, collaring, ear tagging, etc, that are causing suffering and death to the Dingoes, and tourists running the Dingoes down in their vehicles, or their hired vehicles, there is no hope for survival for the Fraser Island Dingoes, unless the Prime Minister and the Qld Government make immediate changes to Fraser Island legislation, constitution, tourists, ban all tourists from bringing their vehicles onto the Island, Tours only run by accredited, responsible tour guides, who must drive carefully, drop the speed limit from 30 to 10-20km/hr around the Island and beaches.

To conserve the beaches, driving along the beaches needs to be banned. There is life in the sand that is also being driven to extinction with the pressure and destruction caused by the constant beach drives.

You can help us make the necessary changes for our native protected Eastern Grey Kangaroos, by signing this petition, and circulating this for us: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/saveallthe-kangaroos.html.

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10: http://www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/ don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

This statement is admitting to the flawed, dishonest kangaroo management plan, and russell watkinson’s media release, on Friday 18/6/10, that blames the kangaroos for driving legless lizards, earless dragons, etc, and the deteriorating grasslands and woodlands to extinction, by eating all the grasses, when fletcher admits that the native grasses are not threatened by the kangaroos, but by human activity, including toxic sprays.

Please check out this link: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx, that was in the Canberra times on 17/10/09, that completely refutes the allegations against the roos destroying grasslands, that was sent to maxine cooper, that were also ignored.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along:

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx, with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the ‘letters to the editor’ section, titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUZrKj6ClBg ‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related, so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species. Native protected animals called pests, the very same native animals that maintain a healthy well balanced eco system. The code of practice that the shooter refers to is inhumane, and unacceptable, as witnessed in this video footage. Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders), causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59.

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.
