MARCH FLIES – OLD DOGS

April last year I wrote an article on how to care for your old dogs from the April flies biting their ears, nose, body.

This year the flies are attacking earlier, in March, commonly known as the March Flies.

To read how to treat your old dogs to repel the flies and heal their bites please click on this link: https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/04/ and scroll down to APRIL FLIES-OLD DOGS.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED – CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS

Please click on this link to read this competition: https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/12/21/wildlife-carers-group-visit-to-antarctica-melbourne-aquarium-competition-ongoing-animal-cruelty-by-rspcamore-211212/ and scroll down to COMPETITION.

The first pictured bird is a nestling Chough, note the red eyes around the pupil.

Choughs are in the same family as the Currawongs.

The second pictured bird is a Currawong, note the yellow eyes that can still be seen from the distance.

Don’t be misled by inappropriate reports made against our native Currawongs by people who are not educated in our native wildlife.

Currawongs do not behave any differently to Magpies, Raptors, Kingfishers etc.  All of these birds catch baby and small birds to feed them to their young and to feed themselves with.

Currawongs are very important to assist in eradicating introduced pests.

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, http://www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan%E2%80%A6/comment-page-1/(this page may now be closed to leave space for UC new students interviews)
don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

This statement is admitting to the flawed, dishonest kangaroo management plan, and russell watkinson’s media release, on Friday 18/6/10, that blames the kangaroos for driving legless lizards, earless dragons, etc, and the deteriorating grasslands and woodlands to extinction, by eating all the grasses, when fletcher admits that the native grasses are not threatened by the kangaroos, but by human activity, including toxic sprays.

Please check out this link: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx
that was in the Canberra times on 17/10/09, that completely refutes the allegations against the roos destroying grasslands, that was sent to maxine cooper, that were also ignored.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along.

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’,that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Please click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbn3c8EcNRk&feature=related

SEE the so called controlled government butchering, you will note that the kangaroos are still alive when hung up, suffering, AND BEING TORTURED TO DEATH, the male is laughing at the cruelty he has just inflicted on this kangaroo, a joey stomped to death, even the child stomps on it as he walks past following his father, orphaned joeys hopping around, left to starve to death, a joey bashed till its eyes popped out, but is still alive, suffering, a prolonged death, and the male admitting that these are protected species. Native protected animals called pests, the very same native animals that maintain a healthy well balanced eco system. The code of practice that the shooter refers to is inhumane, and unacceptable, as witnessed in this video footage. Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders),causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59.

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

We can see their marine life up and down the Qld coast, however, the only unique sighting that Fraser Island can boast about, and can offer to the tourists, is the pure breed native Dingoes, once the last 90 odd Dingoes, population estimation as of 28-29 August 2011, (since the mismanaged Fraser Island fire by the Qld government, this Dingo population has more than likely dropped dramatically), that are left on the Island are driven to extinction, through arrogance, mismanagement and mistreatment, Fraser Island will have nothing left to offer to the huge tourist trade it currently holds, which will end Fraser Island tourism. This species maintains a healthy well balanced ecosystem.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY AND STEALING OF WILDLIFE; LETTERS SENT TO CANBERRA TIMES BUT NOT PUBLISHED 28/8/12

UNLAWFUL ENTRY AND STEALING OF WILDLIFE; LETTERS SENT TO CANBERRA TIMES IN MY DEFENCE BUT NOT PUBLISHED 28/8/12.

I demanded a public apology by the Canberra Times with letters sent in my defence to them to be published in Saturday’s paper, to attract the same readers who read the defamatory lies about me on Saturday 11/8/12, so that they can read the truth.

I asked the CT editor’s office why would they give tams and the rspca the satisfaction in printing such defamatory lies about me and assist them in destroying my reputation, and that in her heart, she knew that I did not commit any acts of animal cruelty, and that they did not have to print anything at all. She refused to put me through to the editor and told me to send another letter.

I have sent several emails since and still have not had a response back from the editor with a public apology.  The Canberra Times could get involved and demand a public apology to me by the government, the rspca and demand that my stolen wildlife be returned to me alive.

Due to the ongoing incompetence of tams in their handling of sending out wildlife rehabilitation licence renewal applications, and then the sending out of record books, and the defamatory lies about me sent out in letters to Wildlife Carers Group carers in 2008, Wildlife Carers Group has requested a Public Apology with the confession of departmental error, our licence to be a special licence for our independent group, with the instructions/conditions of an open licence that does not expire, no record keeping for tams, full term rehabilitation of ALL sick, injured, orphaned native wildlife, no carers list to tams, and wildlife inspections undertaken by Wildlife Carers Group.

Due to the ongoing annual acts of animal cruelty INCLUDING 30+ other permits handed out all year round to kill protected native kangaroos and other protected native wildlife, committed by tams and their shooters under the rspca, Wildlife Carers Group has further requested that all applications for native Wildlife killing licences and Wildlife Rehabilitation Licences to be processed by Wildlife Carers Group.

All native Wildlife are protected, with the Wildlife protection laws constantly breached under this government and the rspca.

Wildlife Carers Group is the only ACT body that enforces the Wildlife protection laws, and prevent protected native wildlife from being killed.

I have written several emails and I am demanding a public apology for the unlawful entry and stealing of my wildlife on 10/8/12, defamation, and vicious harassment by the police, tams and the rspca to the chief/tams minister, and to the police requesting that they charge, arrest and prosecute the rspca and tams, including the police involved, for their unlawful entry and unlawful stealing of my wildlife, vicious harassment and defamation, and the immediate return of my stolen wildlife alive.

We demand that all of these offenders are terminated from their jobs as well.

I am further demanding a compensation payout for all of the ongoing vicious harassment, unlawful entry and stealing of my wildlife and my wildlife food, and the ongoing defamatory lies going on about me.

To read this article that refutes everything that the recent Canberra Times article false allegations claim on 11/8/12, and unlawful action of illegal trespassing and stealing of animals taken against me by the tams dept, the rspca and the police on 10/8/12, because I took the conservator of flora and fauna to court to stop the unlawful violent killing of the kangaroos and to make the required changes to the Nature Conservation Act 1980, The Kangaroo Management Plan that is full of science fiction and no scientific evidence of their claims made against the Kangaroos of damage, destroying endangered species that is caused by the government, hoofed cattle, quad bikes, digging pits, 4WD’s, shooters, and the Pests Control Management Plan Strategy that needs to have all native wildlife omitted from the Plan, please click on this link: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/canberra-city-of-animal-lovers-20120714-222rk.html

We urgently require your assistance to expose these unlawful acts and abuse of taxpayers money and their positions in their jobs by the rspca and government and their government dept, along with your assistance to give back my wildlife if they are still alive, and to help deal with the rspca as well, and possibly the police since they also abused taxpayers money on this unlawful action while the real criminals continue to reoffend.

I requested the police to take action and to stop the unlawful violent killing of the Kangaroos in May 2012, sent them visual photographic evidence of the violent unlawful killing, however the police refused to stop the Labor/Greens government and government dept.

I further requested that the police investigate, arrest, charge and prosecute all the offenders responsible for, and for killing violently and unlawfully, but it appears that the police have refused to do so, instead, abusing taxpayers money to unlawfully raid innocent well known and respected registered wildlife carers property for taking the government to court for animal cruelty.

On Friday 10/8/12 my property was unlawfully entered into by the police, tams licensing compliance officer Rod Carnall, and the rspca, who ignored my warnings to leave my property since they do not have my permission to enter my property and under the Human Rights Act, etc they have to have my permission.

They were also ordered to leave my protected wildlife on my property under my long term expertise and knowledge in care, and that the rspca kill everything.

All native wildlife are protected, but only by me and my Wildlife Carers Group, and not by the rspca and government dept tams who unlawfully kill, unlawfully violently kill.

Wildlife Carers Group is the only group that enforces the wildlife protection laws. It is unlawful to kill protected native wildlife.

This action was to stop me from pursuing legal action against the Conservator of Flora and Fauna for the violent unlawful killing of Kangaroos in May/June 2012, and because I had already commenced legal action against the Conservator of Flora and Fauna on 22 May 2012, on the day the unlawful violent killings commenced.

Vicious harassment and defamation has never stopped by both the rspca and tams staff against me and my group attempting to destroy my hard earned and well respected reputation, so that they can continue to lie about wildlife and continue to unlawfully and violently kill protected native wildlife without being exposed for their lies and animal cruelty by me.

My long term expertise stems from being Senior Vice President for the Wildlife Foundation in the early 1980’s, a committee member on COG and a very active member identifying birds and sound, field trips etc, and a licensed bird bander with National Parks and Wildlife, field trips, setting up nets, trapping and removing from traps, and writing up records for weight, sex, identity, etc, and then releasing the birds. I had this bird banding practice introduced into the Wildlife Foundation so that we can monitor the rehabilitated birds and record what were successful release sites and what were not successful release sites, were they released too soon, etc. I was also Vice President of Wildlife Oolong Sanctuary for a number of years.

I will copy and paste my response to the Canberra Times article on Saturday 11/8/12 that I sent to the CT later that evening, below the articles that someone else sent to the Canberra Times, and to the rpsca. I have further phoned the Canberra Times requesting to speak to the editor and demand a retraction and an apology. I was told that Jack would ring me back but the editor still has not phoned back.

I have been given till Tuesday 21/8/12 to make an appointment with Rod Carnall to discuss what they did to me, although he has something else on his agenda with this interview.

At no time while they were on my property was animal welfare or the animal welfare act mentioned to me.

I read that false allegation made against me in the Canberra Times after they rang me to let me know that they had just found out about the raid on my property, unfortunately the Canberra Times did not print all the facts that I told them, so you can imagine my shock to read about the animal cruelty allegations made against me by the rspca, and the fact that they printed it and exposed my name and address which I have kept private for obvious reasons.

As I investigate animal welfare matters I get threatened and abused, the Canberra Times is well aware of that, and yet exposed where I live in their article, a breach of the Privacy Act, and endangering my safety.

It appears that all of this commenced against me just 2 days after the Canberra Times wrote a full page article on me in the Sunday Canberra Times on 15/7/12, that both the rspca and tams felt would strengthen my legal actions against the rspca and tams for animal cruelty etc, and to have the necessary changes made to the Nature Conservation Act, the Kangaroo Management Plan and the Pests Control Management Strategy that would ensure that the killing stopped against protected native wildlife and our Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence would provide full term rehabilitation for all the omitted sick, injured, orphaned protected native wildlife, with an exemption to Wildlife Carers Group to keep records for tams, with an open licence, to allow us to do what we do best, with no expiry date, providing full term rehabilitation to all native sick, injured, orphaned wildlife, and that would allow us to take over all the native wildlife killing applications and wildlife rehabilitation licence applications.

Wildlife Carers Group will also need to take over all the inspections.

With the rspca having absolutely no knowledge and expertise in wildlife that we have, the rspca will need to immediately lose their wildlife rehabilitation licence, and their full government funding, since you have already seen how the rspca abuse their taxpayer funding and their donations, to run smear campaigns.

In all of my over 30 years of working with animals, I have never in my life been accused of animal cruelty, nor have I ever been guilty of committing acts of animals cruelty, I have been fiercely working hard to end acts of animal cruelty by the government, the government departments and the rspca, and have educated and given advice towards ending these crimes.

I have been the most successful wildlife carer working from my backyard since the early 1980’s, to this current day.

If you need any further information, please don’t hesitate to reply to this email.

Your urgent response and action and assistance is required to order that my wildlife be IMMEDIATELY returned to ME alive and unharmed, and a public apology.

Letters sent to Canberra Times by others. I have removed their names and addresses from the copies.

We need to stop the rspca and tams bullying, defamation and vicious harassment of expert wildlife carers, in the attempt to gag us, we pay their wages, we have rights to expose the animal cruelty, etc and to try and stop it, by the government and the rspca without being viciously harassed and defamed with lies. Please write letters to the Chief Minister, Tams Minister Katy Gallagher, gallagher@act.gov.au , GreensPartyCaroline LeCouteur, lecouteur@parliament.act.gov.au , Police/Environment minister Simon Corbell, corbell@act.gov.au , Opposition leader Zed Seselja, zed.seselja@parliament.act.gov.au , Tony Abbott, tony.abbott.mp@aph.gov.au , and demand that Wildlife Carers Group wildlife be immediately returned to me, with a public apology, and to take action against the rspca, tams licensing compliance officer Rod Carnell, and certain police officers for their unlawful entry and unlawful seizure of protected native wildlife from Wildlife Carers Group and for their acts of animal cruelty to the wildlife that they seized from my premises.

We are running another petition to stop the unlawful violent killing of the Eastern Grey Kangaroos, please sign as individuals, and circulate, post onto your websites, etc:

The editor
The Canberra Times

Your story ‘Wildlife carer could face charges after sick birds seized’ (Canberra Times, 11 August 2012) raises several questions.

It appears that the ACT Government and RSPCA forcibly entered a private property, the reason being that the birds in the care of Ms Nora Preston on behalf of the Wildlife Carers Group were not exempt from the TAMS licensing provisions, or, that they were sick and needed immediate veterinary care.

After entering the property and identifying the birds, the inspectors should have realised they were on the TAMS exempt list and that Ms Preston had the right to keep them. However, the inspectors removed the birds, regardless. Apparently the inspectors had decided, without any verifying evidence or without the presence of a vet, that the birds were sick. Why didn’t the raiding party take a vet with them to examine the birds on site and spare them a traumatic chase and capture which would certainly be enough to make them sick?

Where is the chain of independent evidence? Michael Linke, the RSPCA’s Chief Executive officer, who is a qualified accountant, seized the birds so his vets could examine them and predictably find that they were sick enough to warrant his intervention for whatever reason. If the RSPCA vets had found that the birds were sick, how would they know that the birds weren’t suffering from their most recent capture, or from problems that the Wildlife Carers Group was currently addressing, or both?

The most relevant question is: does this raid have anything to do with the recent case where Ms Preston took the ACT Government to court in an attempt to stem its slaughter of kangaroos?

It is reprehensible for a respected organisation like the RSPCA gets into bed with the ACT Government in a foray which suspiciously looks like retaliation and harassment. Perhaps the perpetrators of this precipitous action need to look at the ACT Criminal Code, the Human Rights Act, the Animal Welfare Act, TAMS licensing regulations and so on before they plan their next raid. In the meantime, anyone keeping a exempt bird that looks a little pale should expect the raiders of the lost cause to strike at any time without warning which is apparently what they did to Ms Preston.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

This is to the Canberra Times…

I have noted that animal welfare agencies other than the RSPCA do their utmost to rehome animals whereas the RSPCA does what is expedient (which means you often put animals down when there is no necessity to do so). This also includes your part in the slaughter of the Kangaroos around Canberra recently.

The RSPCA does this because they are not an independent agency as they receive government funding.

Therefore the RSPCA has to toe the government line!

Hence the recent SLAUGHTER of innocent kangaroos which was completely unnecessary as other viable options had been put forward.

My mother, who has been a regular donor in the past will no longer donate to the RSPCA. Rather, her support will now go to independent organisations and wildlife rescue organisations.

I am appalled at the recent treatment of a wildlife rescuer/carer in the ACT (Nora Preston). What happened amounted to unlawful entry, defamation and vicious harassment of this person.

This so obviously smacks of retribution in relation to her actions to take the ACT government to court to stem the SLAUGHTER of kangaroos by the ACT government. The RSPCA is doing the government’s dirty work for them.

Again, this is evidence of the RSPCA toeing the line to guarantee their Government funding. Shame, shame, shame!

I must say, I am disgusted!

My Letter to the Canberra Times, to which I received no response, with neither of the letters in my defence printed by the Canberra Times stating the real facts:

I’m not sure who ran to the media with this information, I wouldn’t mind feedback on this.

DEFAMATION AND VICIOUS HARASSMENT

I would like to know what the rspca defines as animal cruelty.

The birds were with me for under 24 hours.

I did not rip any of their wings off while they were alive trying to torture them to death, nor did I attempt to bash them to death or in any way try to mutilate them or harm them in any way as the rspca did when they were aggressively and inhumanely dragging them out from their housing that they had settled into.

All the local cockatoos came flying in to the rescue, responding to the cockatoos alarming calls to them as they were being ripped out of their comfortable housing on my property by the rspca.

All the birds were in excellent health, and I say ‘were’, since I suspect that the rspca did what they do best, and that is to kill them and to deny them the right to life.

If by some miracle the birds are still alive, then they soon will be dead or quite sick through mishandling, poor housing, and no knowledge of wildlife by the rspca on how to handle, house and treat them.

Wildlife Carers Group always provide veterinary treatment to our wildlife that are handed in to us.

My expertise and knowledge in wildlife rehabilitation far outweighs that of the rspca staff, since I commenced rehabilitating wildlife in the early 1980’s and furthermore I was the most successful carer around at the time, that has continued to this date.

Animal Welfare is also my top priority.

The rspca have shown it is of their lowest priority by failing to seize a dog cruelty case that I reported to them, with the dog thrown on the back of the open truck in 30 degree heat last year and left there without food and water, and again this year, with the same dog left on the back of the same open truck uncontrolled parked dangerously on the road full of blind bends, with no food and water, that the rspca saw, agreed that the dog was underweight, and refused to seize the dog. This dog offender now has 2 dogs to abuse and to kick out uncontrolled into the streets because of the rspca failing to seize the dog and ban this owner from owning any further pets.

We have learnt that we can never believe anything that the rspca says. They fabricate their animal numbers to ensure that they get their government grant, etc.

This unlawful action made against me by tams with the rspca and the police was a personal vendetta purely to get back at me for taking the Conservator of Flora and Fauna to ACAT on 22 May 2012 to try and stop the unlawful violent killing of the Kangaroos, and for fighting for the necessary changes to the Nature Conservation Act, the Kangaroo Management Plan, and the Pest Control Management Strategy, to once and for all put an end to the false allegations, unnecessary killing and abuse that our native wildlife undergo under the rspca and tams.

Please note, that I had to dip into my own pocket to take the Conservator of Flora and Fauna to ACAT to stop the unlawful violent killing of the Kangaroos, that is Wildlife
Carers Group’s definition of animal cruelty. The rspca, with all of their government funding and donations have taken absolutely no action against TAMS for their acts of animal cruelty.

I phoned Rod Carnell after he left my property, and asked him to read out the wildlife that are on the exempt list to me.

We will find that the unlawfully seized birds from my property are on this exempt list that
Rod refused to read out to me on the phone.

The police, rspca and Rod Carnell unlawfully entered my property without my knowledge, without sending me a letter first to make enquiries on what he was alleging.

When I ordered them off my property under the Human Rights Act, they refused to leave.

They did not have my permission to be on my property, to viciously harass me, to seize any protected native wildlife from me, and then to go away and defame me with their false allegations and go to the media with them.

This is more abuse of taxpayers money and abuse of their positions that they hold, first by spending over $200,000 for violent unlawful killing of the kangaroos, that the final poll showed the majority of 56% of the population opposed, with the government and government dept TAMS only having a small minority of 39% supporting their unnecessary violence, second, by unlawfully entering my property and removing protected native wildlife that were only safe and protected, receiving proper care and treatment in my care.

I ordered Rod to order the rspca to immediately return the wildlife they unlawfully took from my property, if they are still alive.

The protected native wildlife still have not been returned.

The licence issue is departmental error, and not my error for which they have received hundreds of emails to resolve it.

If the rspca and tams authority with animals/wildlife is not removed from them, the animal cruelty will continue under them, the animals will continue to be killed, and we will have no animals left.

You can help us make the necessary changes for our native protected Eastern Grey

Kangaroos, by signing this petition, and circulating this for us http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/saveallthe-kangaroos.html.

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, http://www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/

don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along.

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx , with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the ‘letters to the editor’ section, titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11.

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

Kangaroos are not fit for human or dog consumption, heavily contaminated with various diseases/harmful bacterias, e.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, toxoplasmosis, preserved illegally with sulphur dioxide that causes thiamine deficiency, (a white crystalline solid forming part of the vitamin B complex, C12H17CIN4OS; a vitamin (B1), required by the nervous system, absence of which causes beri-beri and other disorders), causing death, intake of pesticide spraying to control locusts, etc. Keep watching till it stops, keep an eye on the timer, next to the speaker symbol, length 10:59.

There are more links on youtube to show the facts on the extreme cruelty committed to our native protected macropods.

RSPCA LOSES DONATIONS OVER WILDLIFE CARER DEFAMATORY LIES & UNLAWFUL RAID & STEALING OF WILDLIFE; LICENCE; UNLAWFUL ENTRY AND STEALING OF PROTECTED NATIVE WILDLIFE 28/8/12

Here is the response back from the person to the rspca, and the rspca response to the email someone sent to him all shown below.

I have removed names and email addresses for their privacy.

The rspca are doing their best to get rid of the competition, and if they see us as competition, then the rspca are not at all about the animals/wildlife, and their welfare, and for their protection, and for their rights to survive, instead they are just about profiteering, making money out of the animals, because our vulnerable abused animals/wildlife need all the help and protection they can get.

If the rspca can’t see that, and they have made it perfectly clear and obvious that they can’t see that, don’t want to see that, and simply don’t care about the animals/wildlife, then the only option is to shut down the rspca for the abused animals/wildlife sake, to prevent the ongoing abuse of animals/wildlife under the rspca.

If they placed top priority over the animals and their welfare, they would be working with me and our group rather than repeatedly defaming me and this group and trying to have us shut down.

Instead the rspca see the rspca as a huge profit making business, with our expertise, against their non existing expertise and knowledge of wildlife/animals, they see us as threatening their very existence, and we will drive the rspca to extinction before they drive our animals/wildlife to extinction.

From the moment I applied for the Wildlife Carers Group Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence, even before the licence was issued to us, the rspca sent out letters slandering our names to everyone, trying to prevent us from having our licence issued.  This is how your taxpayers money and donations are being spent by the rspca, and not on preventing animal cruelty, saving and protecting animals/wildlife.

The rspca failed.

Wildlife Carers Group finally got our licence, but not after I had to continue to fight for it.

It took a long 8 months for us to get our licence.

After we got our licence, all the rspca members wanted to join Wildlife Carers Group as well.

The rspca were at it again, bullying and dictating to all rspca members, ordering them with threats that they were not allowed to be members of both groups, taking away their freedom of choice, which is unlawful.

The facts are, that the rspca members have the right to be members of as many groups as they want, and have the right to rehabilitate with as many groups as they want to.

There is absolutely nothing that the rspca can do about it.

The rspca were responsible for attempting to sabotage Wildlife Carers Group monthly training courses by bullying our speakers that left me to have to present the Training Courses myself at the very last minute.

It got to the stage where I was forced to stop inviting guest speakers.

I give talks, I train work experience students for 5 days solid at a time, I do online training, none of which brings in the money that the monthly training courses did, even though we only charged a small minimal fee for entry, compared to what the rspca charge.  Once again, for the rspca, it is all about making money and abusing their title as an animal organisation.

I attend a lot of meetings, workshops, forums and amend policies relevant to the well being and survival of protected native wildlife, to prevent animal cruelty and native wildlife from being driven to extinction, to stop the lies sent out by those who claim that they are experts but who actually do not have any expertise or knowledge in this field.

The rspca were responsible for sabotaging every good thing I tried to do for this group, with their ongoing interference and in trying to out do this group from when I requested sponsorship for a wildlife ambulance, when the rspca  jumped in and requested the same, got the ambulance, just to let it sit in the carpark, and so on.

The rspca and tams continued to falsely advertise that the rspca were the only wildlife rehabilitation group in the ACT, from the minute our Wildlife Rehab. Licence was issued.

The rspca have not stopped to attempt to destroy this reputable group, full of long term knowledge, expertise and understanding in wildlife and animals care and their behaviour, through the rspca’s constant defamatory lies.

The facts about the rspca are, if they can’t make money out of it, they kill it, unlawfully profiteering out of animals and wildlife, if they have a personality clash with the animal, they kill it, if they don’t like the animal, they will kill it and heaven help our native wildlife, they will have them removed from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence, run like a typical government department, that will occur if Wildlife Carers Group and myself is not here to stop them.

The rspca do not want any competition, the rspca do not want experts pulling them up and into line, and exposing their inadequacies in the attempt to improve their knowledge and expertise.

TAMS do not want any experts exposing them either, they want to continue to mislead the public about Kangaroos and other native wildlife, continue to torture animas to death, that the rspca allows them to do.

TAMS began defaming me in 2008 when they were responsible for departmental error by failing to send me the wildlife rehabilitation renewal application and record books to renew our licence, and then unlawfully wrote to all our carers discrediting my name by claiming that they had not renewed the licence because they were still waiting for me to send in the records, instead of writing the truth to the carers, that it was departmental error, and that they still haven’t sent me the renewal application for the licence and the record books, and therefore the licence is still in tact.

Thankfully tams only had the carers list and not the full membership list. Since then tams no longer receives our new carers list.

Neither Wildlife Carers Group nor myself can be held responsible, accountable or liable for departmental error, therefore we do hold a licence to rehabilitate wildlife.

The rspca are all about making money and running a profitable business, and are not at all about the animals welfare, their rights and their survival.

Wildlife rehabilitation is not just about rehabilitating, you must know and understand their habitat, and true conservation, not the lies about conservation you hear and the misleading training government dept staff receive in the ACT, you must have knowledge of the factual environment, the factual eco system, to understand native wildlife and to understand that ALL native wildlife are important in order to maintain a healthy well balanced eco system.

The rspca attempted to have native currawongs and possums removed from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence, because they simply do not like them, and because of their ignorance and arrogance in native wildlife.

I stopped them from removing them from the licence.

Neither the rspca nor tams had absolutely any understanding of the fact that native Eastern Grey Kangaroos were native to the ACT.

For years the rspca operated under a tams Wildlife Rehabilitation Licence that FALSELY claimed they could not have full term rehabilitation because they were not native to the ACT.

In 2005, IT TOOK MY EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE IN NATIVE WILDLIFE to have the licence changed to state truthfully that Eastern Grey Kangaroos were indeed native to the ACT, immediately upon the issuing of our licence.

With this type of attitude by the rspca, who fail to put the animals/wildlife first, always in competition with everyone else, animals tortured to death by the government and their shooters while the rspca do nothing to take legal action against the government responsible, and who have the audacity to abuse taxpayers money and your donations to tell defamatory lies about me instead, it is not a wonder that we are fighting to have the rspca shut down, removed from all the expert advisory committees that is abusing taxpayers money by paying them, and to have their wildlife rehabilitation licence removed from the rspca, and to keep all animals away from them.

Subject: FW: RSPCA actions [SEC=UNOFFICIAL]

This is the response that ….. sent back to Linke.

Thank you for your response.

In response I would like to say that the government and the RSPCA should have full knowledge of the facts before raiding an innocent person’s home, and taking animals in her expert care, especially from someone with over 30 years of experience in caring who has an excellent track record, never accused of animal cruelty, and never committed acts of animal cruelty, and should ensure that they have the full facts before killing kangaroos that are killed inhumanely, and that I know that the RSPCA is opposed to full term rehabilitation of the sick, injured, orphaned native protected kangaroos and dictate what to put on the wildlife rehabilitation licence.

Also your no killing policy is a farce because everyone is fully aware that you kill everything.

You should be utilising Nora Preston’s long term expertise and knowledge and working with her and her rescue group rather than attempting to destroy her reputation and her group with your lies.

All native wildlife are protected which means, that you are not allowed to kill any native wildlife.

My mother and I are not supportive of the horrendous charges you impose on community members when surrendering their pets to you. We have an issue with overbred cat numbers in our area and the reason this is happening is because the owner of the breeding pair cannot afford to have them desexed and cannot pay to surrender up the offspring. My mother is elderly and gets very distressed about the issue of these poor cats.

I don’t consider your stance as helping the community in relation to animal welfare. Unfortunately in Canberra there are no alternatives to the RSPCA in regards to rehoming/desexing pets if you cannot afford to do this yourself.

So the RSPCA has the upper hand and can do what they like. We don’t have any confidence in the RSPCA in Canberra.

Fortunately, in Sydney we have many alternatives and lots of assistance for those who are doing it tough.

Subject: RE: RSPCA actions

…….

Thanks for your note.

RSPCA ACT homes 94% of dogs and almost 90% of cats. We adopt a no kill philosophy with animals within our care.

With regard to kangaroos, the ACT government manages kangaroo populations in the ACT and RSPCA does not have a role to play.

With regard to Nora Preston, again the ACT government is the decision maker with regard to license holders and wildlife care in the ACT.

I always believe a full understanding of the facts is important before making claims such as the ones you have made below.

Michael

Dear Mr Linke

I have noted that other animal welfare agencies do their utmost to rehome animals whereas the RSPCA does what is expedient (which means you often put animals down when there is no necessity to do so). This also includes your part in the slaughter of the Kangaroos around Canberra recently.

You do this because you are not an independent agency as you receive government funding.

Therefore you have to toe the government line!

I am appalled at the recent treatment of a wildlife rescue/carer in the ACT (Nora Preston). This amounted to unlawful entry, defamation and vicious harassment of this person.

This so obviously smacks of retribution in relation to her actions to take the ACT government to court to stem the SLAUGHTER of kangaroos by the ACT government. The RSPCA is doing the government’s dirty work for them.

How could you???? I am disgusted!!!

Again, this is evidence of the RSPCA toeing the line to guarantee their Government funding. Shame, shame, shame!

I must say, I am disgusted!

regards

…….

don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

NEWS ALERT!!WITNESSES CALLED HIT AND RUN BRUSHTAIL POSSUM, APRIL FLIES-OLD DOGS, COMPETITION BIRD IDENTIFIED 22/4/12

NEWS ALERT!!WITNESSES CALLED HIT AND RUN BRUSHTAIL POSSUM

On Friday 20/4/12, a Brushtail Possum was hit on Learmonth Drive, Kambah, in the evening. Wildlife Carers Group is calling for any witnesses on the offender.

Please email wildlife_carers_group@yahoo.com.au with ‘HIT AND RUN POSSUM, KAMBAH’ in the subject heading, or texting 0406 056 099 with any information you may have.

BRUSHTAIL POSSUM, a native protected animal.

All native wildlife are protected. It is unlawful to hit and run, or harm and harass any wildlife.

If you hit any wildlife, stop, offer the wildlife assistance, phone Wildlife Carers Group.

Check the dead or injured animal’s sex, if it is a female, check the pouch for young for Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wombats, Possums, etc. and wrap them up in a jumper or towel, whatever you have handy to keep them warm.  The baby should stay with the injured mother so that it can keep suckling, call Wildlife Carers Group.

It’s a good idea to keep disposable gloves with you.

If you have witnessed a crime of any harm or harassment caused to any wildlife, a hit and run, take down the registration number of the vehicle, the colour and make of the vehicle, sex of the driver-male or female, whether or not the driver is caucasian, ethnic, african, etc, and any other information you may have on the hit and run driver or any other crimes committed to wildlife, and report it to Wildlife Carers Group either by email to wildlife_carers_group@yahoo.com.au or by phoning or texting 0406 056 099.

Wildlife Carers Group has been inundated with calls, so we ask for your patience.

If we haven’t returned your call, you have either left the wrong number, forgot to leave a number, we couldn’t decipher your number, or we have attempted to return your call but have not been able to get through.

Please remember to repeat your number twice so that we can write down your number.

Our phone gets congested, some calls could get lost in the system when everyone is attempting to leave a message at the same time.

When our phone goes to voice mail, we are on another call.

APRIL FLIES-OLD DOGS

If you have an old dog, you will have noticed the flies come out in April each year, and land on their ears eating them up causing bleeding and chewed ears, and at times, on their nose as well, also causing bleeding.

This Tea Tree spray is a good product to use to spray over the fly bitten areas that heals and repels the flies.

For the nose area, spray this product onto your fingers, and rub over the nose.

When spraying over the ears, make sure you cover the dog’s eyes and face with your hand, and spray away from the face and eyes onto the effected areas.

You can also spray this product over the entire dog if it is covered with flies.

COMPETITION BIRD IDENTIFIED from 3/3/12.

Congratulations to the winners. Galah, cacatua roseicapilla.

This galah was rehabilitated for 5 months by Wildlife Carers Group after being hit by a car. Anyone else would’ve euthanased this parrot.

Wildlife Carers Group is an independent, non government funded group, non profit group, and is not affiliated with the rspca in any way.

The rspca has never assisted Wildlife Carers Group with any funding, or in any other way.

Wildlife Carers Group does not support the rspca and their mass unnecessary and unlawful  killing of pets/domestic animals and wildlife that just want to live, and indeed have the right to live equally to you and I, which the rspca are driving to extinction, when they can spend all their funds on GIVING THESE ANIMALS AWAY TO SUITABLE HOMES FOR FREE, and treating and providing full term rehabilitation for the sick, injured, orphaned.  The unreleasable wildlife can also be given away FOR FREE to suitable homes with instructions for proper care that aren’t kept to be companions for the incoming sick, injured, orphaned.  This will end poaching.

Once certain Wildlife groups and organisations such as the rspca, including certain vets, get to the point where they think that they can just kill everything that is brought to them, fail to treat each animal as equal with equal rights to be treated and to live, rather than treating the animals and offering full term rehabilitation, or finding suitable homes and giving them away for FREE to avoid euthanasia,  it is time for them to resign, and to hand their jobs over to someone who cares and who places top priority over the animals rights offering them equal opportunity to be treated and to live.

A good quality of parrot mix, containing grey sunflower seeds only, using a combination of cockatiel mix, budgerigar/canary mix and parrot mix for larger parrots.

Dandelion(taraxacum officinale) and Paspalum grass of the genus Paspalum dilatatum.

You will find these growing in your backyard that some people call weeds.

Sulphur-crested cockatoo enjoying Paspalum as part of his diet.

You will find that your rehabilitating parrots will love this so called weed Paspalum included as part of their diet. It’s best to try and rip them out of the ground with dirt and roots to feed to the parrots.

Brushtail Possum enjoying Dandelion as part of his diet.

Not only the parrots enjoy eating the Dandelions, so do the rehabilitating Brushtail Possums.

If you watch the free wild parrots feeding, you will see them nibbling on the Paspalum and the Dandelions.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT IN 2011.

WISHING YOU A VERY SAFE AND HAPPY YEAR FOR 2012.

You can help us make the necessary changes for our native protected Eastern Grey

Kangaroos, by signing this petition, and circulating this for us www.gopetition.com/petitions/saveallthe-kangaroos.html  .

In this article, interviewed on 15/4/10, www.nowuc.com.au/2010/05/27/kangaroo-plan…/comment-page-1/

don fletcher from tams says that kangaroos are not the main problem and in fact ‘native grasses’ are not threatened with extinction, but other animals and plants are, and that “the biggest ‘contributor’ to the loss of the natural treeless grasslands of our region has been agriculture (by far)”.

The report is by Julie Lindner, who has also been studying the grasslands and the roos for the past 20 years, which backs up what I’ve been saying all along.

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/roo-best-custodian-for-some-plants/1652005.aspx  , with a more recent article in the Chronicle in the ‘letters to the editor’ section, titled ‘culling controversy’ p.23, 14/6/11.

Please click on this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUZrKj6ClBg

‘KANGAROO CHILLER BOX INVESTIGATION’/’KANGAROOS ON TRACK TO EXTINCTION’, that contains the cruel bashing to death of roos that are shot, but not directly killed, hung up while still alive, and left suffering, trembling as they hang, tortured to death, and joeys bashed to death, possibly attempting to decapitate the joeys head on the back of the truck with several blows.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO CRUELTY progress, VISIT TO FEATHERDALE WILDLIFE PARK, ANIMAL LAW LECTURE, 13/4/12

SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO CRUELTY progress, ANIMAL LAW LECTURE, VISIT TO FEATHERDALE WILDLIFE PARK 13/4/12

OFFENDER TO BE PROSECUTED FOR COMMITTING ACTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY TO A PROTECTED NATIVE SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO.

Wildlife Carers Group reported on an animal cruelty case committed to a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo in Queanbeyan NSW, on 16/3/12, in our 19/3/12 news edition, https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/03/19/wildlife-carers-group-reports-on-animal-cruelty-calling-for-witnesses-brush-tail-possum-in-phillip-sulphur-crested-cockatoo-in-kambah-and-water-dragon-care-19312/ and updated in our 26/3/12 news edition, https://wildlifecarersgroup.wordpress.com/2012/03/25/update-on-sulphur-crested-cockatoo-nsw-animal-crueltycorrespondence-with-campbell-newman-bats-dingoes-dugongs-sea-turtles-kangaroos-qld-26312/ that was witnessed by me with the bird also being saved by me.

A Detective Senior Constable from Queanbeyan interviewed the offender this morning, 13/4/12, that has consequently led to the offender being prosecuted for causing harm to a native protected animal.

This should be two separate heavy fines under the Animal Welfare Act and the Nature Conservation Act.

His fine will lead to 200 points, $100-$2,500 fine and possibly including 6 months imprisonment that will be left up to the court to decide his fine, and sentencing.

The offender admitted to his crimes against the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, repeating what I had reported.

The 2nd Vet’s report was also handed over to the Detective Senior Constable.

The cockatoo has had x-rays/radiographs performed by a 2nd vet, with further examination, treatment with antibiotics, and wounds treated.

There was evidence of contusion on the left side of the neck and swelling on the left wing over the radius and ulna, just distal to the elbow. The swelling was approximately 1cm in diameter, raised about 2mm, penetrated deeply to the level of bone and contained an eschar (scab) on the surface. The eschar was surgically removed under general anaesthetic to disclose a circular wound with consequential bleeding.

The Cockatoo is in full term rehabilitation at Wildlife Carers Group expense.

The offender has offered to pay the Vet bills.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP VISIT TO FEATHERDALE WILDLIFE PARK NSW 8/4/12

All photos taken by NORA PRESTON.

If you want to interact with wildlife, this certainly is the wildlife park to go to.

As soon as we got off the tour bus, we were welcomed by a staff member holding a joey in the carpark, standing in front of our tour bus.

Agile Wallaby Joey

The Park was mostly clean where the wildlife were kept, except for where the farm animals were held, that was a bit smelly.

Swamp Wallaby

Open enclosures were set up, where the animals could come out from and go back into at their leisure. When they wanted to escape from the tourists, they had their space that they could go into, that the tourists were not allowed to step into, although it is easy to step over the low built open enclosures, however, definitely not advisable.  Even animals need their time out and space from you.

Kookaburras and Tawny Frogmouths just sat around in the open, perched on the chairs or low to the ground.

Laughing Kookaburra to your right, Frogmouth perched lower to the ground to your left.

We got up close and personal to a sleeping Koala, and patted the poor thing disturbing the Koala’s sleep.

Then I just slightly woke the Koala up, eyes still closed but head lifted for a better photo, strike a pose.

More Agile Wallabies.

A sleeping Hairy nosed Wombat.

A Dingo that is pregnant. The pups will be out and about in June and you can interact with the pups.

Albino Wallaroo with an expression on the face saying leave me alone I just want to eat.

Endangered Major Mitchell Cockatoo

Rock Wallaby

Unfortunately we couldn’t interact with the Quolls.

They had labelled 2 Spotted-tailed Quolls, (Dasyurus maculatus) 1 per pen.

This Spotted-tailed Quoll http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=4807 decided to walk up to me as I attempted to take the photo.

I successfully took two photos of the Quoll’s spotted tail each time I attempted to take a photo so I moved onto the next enclosure.

The Quolls were labelled as Tiger Cats that you will also find in mammal books.  The last time I looked at Tigers they had stripes and not spots, so whoever named these Quolls as Tiger Cats should rethink his inappropriate description of the Quolls and withdraw the name ‘Tiger’.

The Eastern Quoll Dasyurus Viverrinus, http://voices.yahoo.com/the-eastern-quoll-facts-information-3737010.html,  http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=4807, (click on the Eastern Quoll link, within this link)  has apparently disappeared from the mainland, where their habitat used to be in Sydney, Braidwood and surrounding areas that apparently now only survives in Tasmania, however, at the rate that Tasmania is destroying their native habitat, poisoning, trapping, shooting, etc. they will ALSO soon disappear altogether in Tasmania just like the Tasmanian Tiger did.

Comparing the 2 photos taken at Featherdale Wildlife Park of the Quolls, the photo of the 1st Quoll that is only showing its tail is definitely a Spotted-tailed Quoll, http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=4807  however, the 2nd  and 3rd photo of the 2nd Quoll, shows that the Quoll’s spots stop at the top of the tail, with no white spots along the rest of the tail or on the tip of the tail, which could identify the last 2  photos as the endangered Eastern Quoll, that is extinct on the mainland, rather than the Spotted-tailed Quoll.

Our Quolls, along with the rest of our native wildlife will be driven to extinction with poisoning, shooting, trapping, loss of habitat etc, unless the government immediately puts an end to all of the above.

Publishers, zoos, wildlife parks and the government need to be extremely careful on how they label our native wildlife, inappropriately labelling  our native wildlife as common, when they are not, leads to driving our native wildlife to extinction.

‘Common’ needs to be removed from all native wildlife, with all our native wildlife placed on the endangered list, to prevent driving our native wildlife to extinction.

2012 Voiceless ANIMAL LAW LECTURE SERIES

Voiceless are inviting you to the 2012 Voiceless Animal Law Lecture Series: a legal exploration of commercial hunting in Australia and Canada..

Australia’s iconic kangaroos are hunted in the largest commercial slaughter of land-based wildlife on the planet – almost 90 million have been lawfully killed in the last 20 years.

Canada’s harp seals are hunted in the world’s largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals – almost 4 million have been lawfully killed in the last 20 years.

With two countries holding such similar records, it is worthwhile exploring the legal parameters of the hunts. In order to do this, Voiceless is proud to present Canadian lawyer Lesli Bisgould as our keynote speaker for 2012.

Lesli is a leader in animal law, having practised in the area for ten years, authored the first Canadian text on the subject and lectured widely throughout Canada and the US. In what is sure to be a fascinating presentation, Lesli will reflect on her experiences with the seal hunt and offer insights into Australia’s own native hunt. She will be joined by Australian leaders in animal law and environmental law, who will give a local perspective on the kangaroo industry and the laws that enable it.

Touring 12 venues throughout Australia, the lectures are open to the public and free to attend.

Please join us for an insightful presentation: find your local venue and register now.

Best regards,

Brian & Ondine Sherman
Voiceless, the animal protection institute

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP REPORTS ON ANIMAL CRUELTY, CALLING FOR WITNESSES – BRUSH-TAIL POSSUM IN PHILLIP, SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO IN KAMBAH, AND WATER DRAGON CARE. 19/3/12.

WILDLIFE CARERS GROUP REPORTS ON ANIMAL CRUELTY, CALLING FOR WITNESSES – BRUSH-TAIL POSSUM IN PHILLIP, SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO IN KAMBAH, AND WATER DRAGON CARE. 19/3/12.

It is horrifying enough to watch acts of animal cruelty on television news, current affair programs and documentaries released.

It is also traumatic enough to be handed native wildlife that have been almost bashed to death, and other injured wildlife, but nothing can prepare you for witnessing acts of animal cruelty performed right in front of you.

Photos taken by NORA PRESTON

SULPHUR CRESTED COCKATOO – Animal Cruelty NSW 16/3/12

On 16/3/12, as usual, I drove to Queanbeyan to buy parrot mix.

Nothing could prepare me for what I witnessed on that day, in a place where you think the parrots and cockatoos would be in a safe haven full of food for them, where they make parrot mix.

As I began driving out of the driveway, a cockatoo was trapped on the concrete ground behind netting that they placed around their large steel drums.

One of the managers kicked at the cockatoo.  At first I thought he was attempting to kick the net out to release the bird from the net, but then he kicked harder directly at the trapped cockatoo so I blasted my horn at the male in the attempt to stop him.

Instead of stopping his acts of animal cruelty, he then stomped on the bird, that appeared to me to be on his head while still trapped behind the netting, trying to kick and stomp the bird to death.

I drove up to him and stopped the car next to him, jumped out of the car and told him to stop, and asked him what he thought he was doing, and then told him that you can’t do that.

I told him you lift the netting up to let the bird out and release the bird, you do not kick them and stomp on them.

He angrily said that he did it to teach the other birds a lesson so that they won’t come back.

I informed him that they are attracting the birds there by making the parrot mixes there for them.

He said they are not making it for them to which I replied yes you are, who else do you think you are making them for, why do you think I am here.

I described what the manager did to 2 other employees who were still there and told them that was animal cruelty.

I asked one of the employee’s to get a box for the bird, so that I can take it straight to the vet.

By the time the employee got back with a box and a towel, the cockatoo staggered out from behind the net himself through an opening he found, which is obviously how he got behind the net in the first place.

As the bird was staggering around and collapsing I quickly put the towel over the bird and placed him in the box.

I told the manager to ensure he tells his staff that they are not to commit acts of animal cruelty on the birds there and to help them.

He shook his head saying no he won’t.

I reminded him that he had just committed acts of animal cruelty and he can be prosecuted for that.

He then asked me well then tell me how to keep the birds away from here.

He has been advised to check the internet for ‘bird scarers’ where he can purchase falcon appearing kites.

They attract a small flock of Crested Pigeons, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, (approx 6) Galahs, (approx 6) with 1 domestic Pigeon into their parrot mix making complex, seen on 16/3/12.

The cockatoo was taken immediately to the vet and examined. I was given powdered psittavet as treatment, using 1 capful diluted in 1 cup of his drinking water.

The veterinary examination showed bleeding in the throat, clicking of the wings with possible broken bones.

The bird is currently being rehabilitated at the expense of Wildlife Carers Group.

I have reported the incident to the Queanbeyan police and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services on 19/3/12, expecting this male to be prosecuted under the animal welfare act, and the protected native wildlife act for attempting to kill a protected native animal.

If the cockatoo does not survive due to his horrific injuries, then the penalty will be causing death to a native species.

I was advised by the police this afternoon 19/3/12 that they will be attending my property to take down a statement, but no one has phoned yet to let me know that they are on their way.

I was advised by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services, Parks and Wildlife section, to phone them back with the Police Officer’s name when I have it, so that they can work together with the police, the female I spoke with also advised me to write down all my costs and claim it back through the police report.

I was in so much shock at what had happened in front of me to this bird, that taking photos of the cockatoo as the vet examined him was the last thing on my mind.

I returned to where the cockatoo was being rehabilitated to check on him and to take a photo on Saturday 17/3/12.

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita)– animal cruelty NSW 16/3/12.

CALLING FOR WITNESSES – BRUSH-TAIL POSSUM, Callam Street and Launceston Street, Phillip, ACT 13/3/12.

On Tuesday 13/3/12 Wildlife Carers Group received a call for a Brush-tail Possum (Trichosurus caninus) in Phillip. The description given was that his eyes were popped out.

This describes what happens when someone tries to bash an animal to death.

We were in Goulburn at the time of the call, so I asked the students to get a box and use a thick towel or blanket to lift the possum up and put him into the box, and to keep him in a quiet place until we get there to pick the possum up.

The male possum had one bloodied eye, with a huge dent in his head.

He was immediately treated with antibiotics and a painkiller.

Any witnesses with information or the person or people responsible for this possum either being bashed to death or a hit and run, please email wildlife_carers_group@yahoo.com.au  with ‘Possum Phillip’ in the subject heading, providing your information.

CALLING FOR WITNESSES – SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO MUTILATED – WINGS DISPLAYED ON DASHBOARD OF CAR IN KAMBAH, ACT.

Since 22/2/12 a pair of Sulphur-crested Cockatoo wings have been displayed on the dashboard of this silver sedan with NSW rego number AY-83-AP, in Drysdale Cct Kambah, that is also permanently illegally and dangerously parked on the road in between blind bends of the street since 22/2/12.

It is unknown when this incident occurred with the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.

A blurred picture of the male offender of the mutilated Sulphur-crested cockatoo wings displayed on the dashboard of the silver sedan, driving white van rego.no. YCH 13J.

Pair of Sulphur-crested Cockatoo wings displayed on dashboard of this car can be seen ON YOUR LEFT/driver’s side, and close up of wing on dash above the photo of the car.

I phoned the rspca, then the ACT police on 131444, who phoned tams. I further sent an email to the Chief Minister. A ranger phoned me and told me that the afp phoned him and that he did not want to go out by himself to check it out and would go out with another person on Saturday 3/3/12.

I advised the ranger that the wings have to be confiscated with the male offender prosecuted, even if it is just for mutilating a native species when dead if he can’t get enough evidence on acts of animal cruelty and torturing a native species to death.

On Sunday 4/3/12, and Monday 5/3/12 the cockatoo wings were still displayed in his window on his dashboard.

I phoned the rspca back, I then phoned the afp back on 131444 to find out who phoned me so that I can ring him back, and sent a couple of more emails to the Chief Minister with more photos to show that no action has been taken.

After the police finally phoned me back with the information, I phoned the rangers number on Wednesday 7/3/12, with the original ranger who rang me answering the phone.

He advised that they investigated the matter on Tuesday 5/3/12, and that the owner of the vehicle immediately took the wings out of the car.

The wings were not confiscated and he was not prosecuted.

The rspca did nothing.

I had no response from the Chief Minister.

Anyone with any information on this Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and the wings is asked to email wildlife_carers_group@yahoo.com.au  with ‘Cockatoo wings
Kambah‘ in the subject heading, and provide your information.

TAWNY FROGMOUTH 17/3/12

After witnessing how a person can kick and stomp on our protected native wildlife, seeing the bashing of our native wildlife, and the injuries that they get from human inflicted violence that resembles a vehicle strike, you start treating each injured wildlife with suspicion of acts of animal cruelty.

This Tawny Frogmouth was handed into Wildlife Carers Group on 17/3/12, after being picked up flapping around on the ground.

Yes, it is extremely expensive to care for wildlife, however, you don’t see Wildlife Carers Group unnecessarily killing all the animals to cut costs, and because we can’t be bothered.

All native wildlife are protected.

It is an offence to attack,  harass, injure or kill any native wildlife that will therefore lead to prosecution.

It is an offence to mutilate any native wildlife, alive or dead, that will also lead to prosecution.

For sick, injured, orphaned native wildlife, phone 0406 056 099.

If you witness any of the above, including a hit and run, please email wildlife_carers_group@yahoo.com.au with the relevant subject heading so that it won’t be mistaken for spam.

If you hit any wildlife, stop, offer it assistance, phone Wildlife Carers Group, it is an offence to hit and run that will therefore lead to prosecution.

who are starving them to death, mismanaging them, mistreating them, will prevent driving these spectacular native wildlife species to extinction, and help end acts of animal cruelty. Changing the Qld government legislation and constitution, to humanely conserve this species, and their habitat. Erecting GIVE WAY to DINGOES/WILDLIFE Signs. This species maintains a healthy well balanced eco system.
